Find one where the auction ends around midnight. Figure out how much you are willing to pay and use the auto bid feature. Thats about all you can do. If your highest figure is higher than any one else's then you will win. Usually people don't like to bid late at night and that will increase your chances also if they aren't using the auto bid feature.

Ya, you know, I don't get into that whole sniping thing. Just decide what it's worth to you, in comparison to the market, and bid what you're willing to pay for. Sooner or later, you may get it for that or less.

Patience, grasshopper. :p

I'm with Flatcat on this...
Do your research..
Settle on a price that is fair..and don't bid more than that at any cost. (make sure to factor shipping and handling)..
See who's bidding on this and check like auctions to see if they are bidding on the other items too...
Look for auctions on the item where the lister misspelled something and made the auction hard to locate with the search function... You'll be the only one bidding...

These things have made me a happy ebay buyer and have gotten me some steals over the years....
Brand new in the box VS890 from a Music Store w Warranty for $425
Computer controlled programmable graphic EQ- 31 band- $13
Midi floor pedal for my rack $40

Just be patient, and you'll get what you want at the price you want...

To hold the price down, don't bid until the last 30 seconds and bid as much as you are willing to pay in case someone manages to try to out bid you in the last 30 seconds.

Set your watch/clock to Ebay time and have the information all filled out for the bid come zero hour. Hit the bid confirm button quickly when it comes up.

Sniping is the only way to go. Putting a bid in early will encourage other people to put a bid in early to see if they can outbid you or to see your max bid (so they can snipe it). Eventually there'll be 20 bids on it. But if no one bids and everyone tries to snipe it at the end the price will stay relatively low.

First and foremost, dont post this question in an open forum like this one.

Second, how many USDs in a pound?

You can't trick me on that one. A pound of USD will always way a pound. And it will weigh the same as a pound of feathers too.

"Sniping."
I didn't know there was a word for it. That's the way I've won stuff on there. For some reason I thought that eBay had taken some precautions to prevent people from using programs like eSnipe is offering. Seems like a fair thing to do, though... tending to keep bidding wars from getting out of hand. I would imagine that it's not popular among sellers.

Usually when the seller hides the bidders user names it is because they are pumping up the bidding themselves and they hope that you won't be able to notice that there are one or two bidders bidding 10 or 12 times on an item to make it look like a hot item [ by having so many bids on it] and to of course pump up/inflate the price. Nearly all the powersellers inflate the price by inhouse bidding. Sometimes you will see an item going for mmmm.... lets say $175 dollars and it still has 3 days left to closing time and then you find an item exactly the same and it is finishing in 4 hours time and it is going for $45. Makes you wonder why 27 people bid up to such a high price on an item that is finishing in 3 days time and they all ignore the same make item which finishes its auction in 4 hours time but is being sold by a private individual for much less.
