Ok, I think this finally is working. I have tried it on 1680, 1880, 1824 and 2480 backup CDs.
I still don't have direct sector read of CD going. so you still have to convert to a .iso file on your PC first.... UPDATE**** Now have direct read of CD working!!!!!
to use -
1. convert backup cd to .iso. If there are multiple cds in the backup, convert all of them to iso.
2. Put these iso files and the vscdrip.exe in a directory that DOS can access
3 Open a DOS command window and type vscdrip (filename.iso)
4. repeat for all cds in the backup set (all from the same directory)
It should create a subdirectory for every song it finds, and strip out the EVENTLST.VRx, the SONG.VRx and all the take files it finds for every song.
At this point it only creates the roland file set. I took out the .wav conversion since I do not yet know how to build time aligned .wavs. I am depending on Randygo and danielo to provide apps for .wav conversion. For instance import to reaper.
Most ripped songs seem to import into reaper cleanly, a few don't. I think randygo's .dll still has a few problems with songs that contain a lot of editing....
***UPDATE new reaper .dll (ver .91) seems to work with every song I have tried
Let me know.... still in the early stages, but if it seems to work for people it can be refined.

Hello bear! ps(my english is not that good,im french)
i just wont to say, many many thanks for that very great work, that you have done to make this VS backup CD ripper to work with the 1880 & 1824.
i could not imagine how many hours... that you did invested to make this wonderfull utility to work!
i use a vs-1824cd for tracking, and Sonar 5 studio edition for mixing & also reaper demo.
the working collaboration that you make with, randygo, danielo give another breath to the vs-workstation!
many thanks again!
im download your (VS backup CD ripper)right now, and i will give some news soon!
thanks martin

martin - What I am finding works for me is to rip out the tracks, then import into reaper, then render to .wav. Now you have a set of .wavs that can be used in Sonar or any other app...
Good Luck! hope it works for you!!

New version - a little faster. A rip that was taking a couple of minutes in older version is now taking 7 seconds.......

This utility no longer produces .wavs..... only the roland .VRx files
I am counting on Randygo and Danielo utilities to provide .wav conversion functionality
It just rips files and does not care if they are MTP MT2 M24 etc.
HeHe I just looked at a source code link that Danielo gave me and there is a whole source listing for a .iso stripper.... be back in a bit, hopefully with a version that works direct from CD....

Good to see you doing this Bear! Feels just like the old times Planet again. Remember HG Lange and his cool board to cure the damn jogwheel?

Has anybody heard from HG? I know he was going thru rough times for awhile there, and then he disapeared.....
Anyway IT SEEMS TO WORK, by adding the raw sector read code I found on the web, all you have to do is stick the backup CD into the drive, no need to convert to iso first
Just stick CD in drive and go to a DOS command window and type
vscd (drive letter of CD drive (without a colon))
it will first create an .iso then strip this iso into a song subdirectories with the roland files in the subdiretories for each song found
When it is done you can delete the .iso if you wish, or keep as an archive or whatever
Make sure you are in a subdirectory like c:\temp or something so you can find it later and make sure your disc has a couple of gigs available... the .iso can be big
I need some beta testers here guys...the cd sector read functionality is something I just cut and pasted from the source code I found. I have not really studied it to see how it works, but it works fine on my machine...

I've done testing of sorts - because it was the only backup cd that I have handy. It's a song that I referenced early in the testing of Randy's stuff - the song was accidently recorded at 32khz. Also all of the takes are complete from beginning to end of song.
I ran vscd to extract the files and used Randy's dll to open the song.vr6 file in Reaper. All the takes came in, were lined up correctly, and sounded right. Reaper crashed the first time, but it appears to be a pc problem - everything worked correctly after reboot.
I'd say it looks good so far!! The ISO extracion worked.

Bear, the new ISO file extraction and subsequent parsing worked great. So much faster this way. You've made some great strides here.

Shanabit - exactly what are you doing, and what errors are you getting?
Remember at this point these are console apps and need to run from a DOS command window. They will not run from windows directly..
I think you can set up a little .bat file to run them if this is easier than opening a DOS window.
Also, vscd needs a drive specifier for your CD drive
like vscd d
or
vscd f
whatever your cd drive letter is on your machine...

It worked great here. Amazing!
I used this and the rdac2wave for the first time - this is really cool stuff.
Is there a simple way to perform a batch wav conversion i.e. all the tracks in the song2 folder?
Again. Great work you guys.

@virtulan - for now the best bet is to download the reaper program. (free tor try $40 to buy...and it is a pretty cool DAW)
Then install randygo's dll
Then all stripped tracks from a song will import into reaper with perfect time alignment, with just one click.
If you wish to mess with these in another program, just render as .wav from reaper. Now you have .wav for every track that is timealigned to time 0....
There will be other options available soon....

OK I'm an idiot,
This will allow you to bring all of your 1880 tracks into the pc for mixing with higher quality EQ's and compressors.
You could accomplish the same thing by transfering two tracks at a time through spdif. But I guess the thought is, you're probably gonna back up your work to cd anyway. You can take this backup CD and bring the files into the computer.

Hmmm.
I prepared a backup cd in the vs1680.
Installed your new program.
Got to the C: prompt
and typed vscdrip d
It comes up "input file not found"
It does say vs backup cd file ripper...etc.
I tried differnt drives...but it still does not see the file.
It did rip out tracks from the .iso file I saved from before and did it much quicker.

There are two programs -
vscdrip which works on .iso files after you use some other program to create...
download
to run vscdrip (filename.iso)
vscd works on the raw CD
download
to run vscd (drive letter)

Bear, does this support multiple song and multiple disc backups?
Almost all of my backups span multiple disks due to several tunes being backed up aonce.

@guitarb - it is supposed to...try it and see
run the program on each backup disc from the same directory.... the created subdirectories should get all the info from multiple discs.

Slightly updated version. Really about the same functionality as the two programs above
Just combined the .iso and raw cd version so only one program. A little bit of cleanup and more careful user input error checking etc.
Also if the rip is made from raw CD, the temp cd.iso file is automaticaly deleted after roland files extracted.
Program is now called Cd2Roland.exe
version is now 0.0.1
run as
cd2roland (drive letter) for full rip and file extraction from raw CD
or
cd2roland (iso filename) for just file extraction from .iso file
UPDATE oops - program was deleting ANY .iso, not just the temp cd.iso. Fixed and changed to ver 0.0.2
download
I want to make a version that does direct conversion to .wav, but still trying to decipher the eventlst file to place phrases at proper place on the timeline....for now import into reaper seems to work pretty well. Convert to .wav from reaper if you want .wav files.
Did multiple CD backup rip work ok guitarb?

I'm getting somewhat confused by the different utilities, and which to use in which combination.
From what I can tell, there're two utilities here that rip simple VS file structures, either from CD or ISO, but don't convert from RDAC. Correct?
Then there's a previous utility that converts all RDAC files to WAV from a single ISO image...I think "RDAC2WAV". Correct?
So, I guess what I need to know, is there anything that will convert individual RDAC files to WAV from a given directory (files previously ripped directly from CD)?
Perhaps it would be nice to get a simple HTML page up somewhere with links and descriptions of the various utilities created by Bear, Danielo, etc...
Congrats again to these folks for doing a tremendous amount of great work.
