For all you BR-1600CD users that are interested:

My company purchased a BR-1600CD not long ago, and like others I've noticed on this forum, we were dissapointed with the USB functionality and how incredibly slow and limited the entire "Export to WAV" functionality.

We use the BR-1600CD for recording live gigs, and we like the small footprint and ease of use of the unit compared with the other VS-platforms (plus cost was a bonus factor). We do all our post-recording mixing, editing and production using Cakewalk SONAR 3 Producer on a PC. After suffering with the current USB implementation, myself being a software engineer in my day life, decided to solve the problem on my own, and created a software conversion utility, WAV-MAKER-1600, which my company now markets to the general public.

Information on this utility can be found at my company's website: http://www.topsoundproductions.com

or a more direct link: http://topsoundproductions.home.att.net/products/wav-maker-1600/

If anyone is interested in more information, feel free to ask questions here or via the e-mail addresses listed on the website.

I hope this utility will help others, as it has already helped my company. I hope it ends all the USB woes that people might be experiencing with their BR-1600CDs.

You have cracked the rdac? \:D awesome!

If you can get this working with 24 bit VS files, from playable copies on a scsi harddrive, you will make a fortune.

Gene,

Awesome! Are their any legal issues with Roland over this? Or is it no prob?

And, please, oh please, do it for the VS 1680/1880/1824 line, I beg you. I'll be your first customer. ;\) !!!!!! (And I think Jel is right, it will be one heck of a long line of people wanting this.)

No legal issues.

As far as compressioN: The BR-1600CD doesn't compress its audio. Most of the work for developing the utility was interpreting the contents of the project folder and trying to figure out what means what.

I've gotten a lot of interest about other VS- and BR- platforms that do use Roland's compression schemes. I'll have to look into this further.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but can't the VS-2480 read all of these project files? I've already taken a look at the user's manual for the VS-2480 and their Export to WAV functionality is a much better design - you can select all tracks or any combination of virtual tracks and export in one step. Perhaps this is Roland's strategy - to offer that capability only in their premier platform.

Yea Mevv, only works on 16bit rdac. \:\( The only 24bit rdac-wav software I know was supplied with the SP-808ex. Which appears to use something like MTP from the 1680.

Anyone tried the SP-808 RDAC conversion software on a 2480 produced MTP file? I tried the conversion software for the 880, and it attempted to translate the 2480 M24 "Uncompressed" file, but only gave me static with bits of silence between on the new rendered file. I was not aware there was true 24 Bit RDAC conversion software avalible.

Anybody have any links to the SP-808 software? I could try a quick MTP RDAC-to-Wave conversion once I get home (Ahh, ACARD)...

I'll search around as well to see what I can find.
