Yay! It worked. \:D

I had some struggle with it but eventually even with my clumsiness I succeeded to fit a harddisk in it.
First I'll lay down the stuff I bought:
IBM laptopdrive - 2.1 gig.
adapter from 2'5 to IDE
Cost me about 65 euro's in total.

I started with hooking the hd up to my pc using the adapter and format it and made one big partition with fdisk. I said no to large drive support. And mounted it out of the pc.
As I said I had some trouble cos me and my stupidity seemed to have mounted the HD in upside down in the 840 at first. haha. So I turned on the 840 and it didn't do much except an empty screen and red lights lit up. oops. (I also did not have a caddie so I screwed it in the vs840 zip-brackets.)
But when I corrected it by plugging the cable in the other way around the HD began to hum. \:\) And asked for "initialize disk".
And as I suspected it showed 539 minutes to record. This means there is a 1 gig limit on the 840. \:\( which is still really much so I ain't complaining. \:\)

That completed the upgrade, in the end I fitted the zipdrive in my pc.
Now the only problem I see is the removability. It would mean I have to open up the 840 if I want to backup my songs or load other songs onto the drive.
Now I was thinking isn't it possible to hook up the 840 scsi port to my pc. So I can exchange data with the zipdrive?
I've got com-ports left. Or do I need a scsi port on my pc?
If this is not possible than the removable caddie is the only option.

Thanks jim for your pioneering with this and sharing it with us. \:\)

It would be nice if you could connect to pc from the 840 scsi but I don't think you can. The 840 software seems to be deliberately designed to prevent anything but a scsi zip drive being used.
A friend tried everything to get a scsi hard disc working but it would not be recognised. The really nice thing about this is that on the Iomega european site, scsi zip drives are not listed anymore!
Still no joy with the 2.5" caddy
