Hello again, and yes, I did forget to type the "o" on the end of Hello in my last post, yikes! At any rate, can somebody be so kind as to help me again ?
I have a DIF-AT and the appropriate R-Bus cable that's required for connecting the DIF-AT to the 2480.
However, and please don't laugh, ok laugh if you must it's OK, laughter is good 
I realize that using the DIF-AT with the R-Bus cable would allow me to bring 8 channels of digital signal/audio into the 2480, but what I don't understand is what I need to do other than connecting the DIF-AT to the 2480 with the R-Bus cable.
For example: I have an Avalon VT 737 SP and I'm using an Apogee Rosetta 200 as my AD converter.
Currently I have the Balanced Output from the 737 patched to the Left Input on the Rosetta 200. I have a word clock cable patched from the Rosetta's W/C Out jack to the 2480's W/C In jack.
This makes the Rosetta the Master & the 2480 the Slave.
I also have an S/PDIF Optical cable patched from the Rosetta 200 to the S/PDIf Optical Input on the 2480.
And yes I switched the clocking to external W/C in my VS's menu.
So everything is working as it should and I'm getting a great sound.
Now what I need help with is understanding what and where do I make connections/patches after I get the DIF-AT connected via the R-Bus cable to the 2480 ?
What else do I need to connect ? Where for example would I connect the Avalon 737 since there wouldn't be any point in using the Rosetta 200 since the DIF-AT is an A/D converter in itself ?
So essentially what I'm asking is to please explain how to use the DIF-AT with the 2480, where and how to make connections and patches.

If all you're concerned with doing is tracking the sound of your mic/DI from your 737 into the 2480, you don't need the RBUS DIFAT. You've got the 737 coming in successfully via the optical cable.
Is the DIF-AT a converter? How much money is it? How much is the Rosetta 200? Which one probably has the best converters?
The Roland website (easily found) says the DIF-AT, "Converts signals between R-BUS and ADAT lightpipe or Tascam T-DIF formats."
if you have multi-channel AD/DA converters and more mic-pres and want to bring more than 2 channels into the 2480 digitally, you might want to look into the Roland AE-7000 units (they allow 8 channels each and you can combine them for 16 tracks total.)

It's been awhile since I've thought about this subject,but isn't the DIF-AT used to bring lets say an 8 channel pre that uses adat out to bring in to the 2480. Or maybe several pre's that use digital outs?

Thanks you guys for getting back to me.
The only reason that I was thinking of using the Tascam DIF-AT which of course is an A/D converter is that maybe at times I'd like to bring 8 channels of digital audio into my VS2480 thus circumventing the mic preamps in the 2480 altogether.
However, the way I understand it, is that the 2480 doesn't accept ADAT, only S/PDIF Optical and Co-Axial audio. The VS does not support ADAT ???? am I correct on this ?
So actually if the 2480 does not accept ADAT audio, then what good is the DIF-AT and the R-Bus cable doing me ???

That's the exact purpose of DIF-AT to take other digital outs and bring them into the 2480 via R-bus 8 channels at once if you want.
Using something like this:

You bypass the 2480 pre's and go in digital.
And yeah, the 2480 doesn't do ADAT.

Thanks again guys for helping me, but I'm still a bit confused:
Please tell me steeply step how to make the DIF-AT & R-Bus Cable work with the 2480?
Let's say that I have 4 external preamps, all single channel, and I want to connect their digital outputs to the 2480 and by-pass the 2480's mic pre's.
Since the 2480 only has S/PDIF Co-Axial and Optical Inputs and you apparently can't use them both at the same time, how do get all 4 external preamps into the 2480 and be able to use any number of them ?
I'm not seeing/understanding how by just connecting the DIF-AT & R-Bus cable to the 2480 will allow me to make this happen ?
Is there some sort of thing in the 2480's Global set-ups that I need to address ?
Yikes this is so complicated ????
Please don't give up on me...

The DIF-AT is what makes Your 2480, ADAT capable through the R-Bus port. As Waterman pointed out, the Octopre is one of a number of those 8pre 1U rack units which turn the 8 XLR's into a single ADAT Lightpipe. That connects to the DIF-AT then R-Bus brings it all in to the 2480.

I think what You are looking for though is to merge or mix the optical or coax SP/DIF outputs of several different preamps.
For that You need some kind of digital mixer. If You still want all those signals to remain as seperate and editable tracks then we may have a problem?
