VS-2480 DSP test failure

So did a test after not being able to get any input or output indications on my unit. DSP error messages were:
DSP 2-3, 3-4, 4-5,5-6 and 6-7 showing code 111
Also VS8F2-A Code 001
T1 DSP also code 001
Can someone let me know which board the DSPs are on? And any thoughts about resolving the issue?

DSP’s are on the main and effects boards. If you can post a screen shot, that might be helpful. The DSP chips (on the main board) may be found online with some Googling. They will need replacing, which isn’t for the faint of heart (100-pin QFP’s under the effects boards. The DSP on the effects board is a custom Roland part. If those fail, just replace the effects board.

I feel it is more likely that capacitors on the board are failing and not the chips . That is until a failed capacitor leads to an overvoltage on a chip so severe that the chip gets fried . I was planning to replace the caps in the mainboard of my 2480 last june but i still haven't got around to it . I suspect it is going to solve a lot of these type of problems ( sluggish user interface , strange hung ups , no sound- noisy sound problems etc)

Unfortunately, due to the time passed within the realm of obsolescence of this fine DAW, chances of finding ANY low-level technical information of this nature (that would have been privy to technical support or quality assurance in its hey-day), would be HIGHLY remote.
I'm confident this information exists, it's simply either buried down in the ninth level of hell, a huge mayonnaise jar in a janitor's closet, or perhaps now only available in double-byte character sets in the Pacific Rim.
I've attempted to field SIMPLE information from ROLAND on several occasions and they have NEVER RESPONDED to any of my requests concerning the VS-2480.
But, perhaps THAT's because of WHO I am. One never knows, does one?
I'll share some wisdom with you. You'd be better off trying to find a replacement mother board than hunting down the DSP56364 Motorola 100 pin IC's.
Removal of the old IC's and insertion and soldering of the new ones would be a NIGHTMARE. They'd get toasted for sure since these board's components are all instantly 'wave' soldered.
Plus, chances are that other components in you unit have had a change of value which actually caused this issue in the first place. (Burning out the DSP chips)
My professional opinion.

Thanks very much for the kind reply, and I agree completely.
Time to retire the old boy and move to the world of computer based DAW.
Appreciate all of the kind council.
Did have one other question - the DS-90 monitors, is there any way to find a way to employ the COSM modeling when moving to the new DAW - what was the simplest Roland unit that allowed you to use the DS-90 with COSM?
Thanks all - know anyone looking for a VS-2480 with a bad main board :-)

Bonjour, je suis Français, je vous laisse traduire la solution au problème de DSP code 111 que j'ai réparé. J'ai eu le même problème avec mon VS. les symptômes étaient:
Système d'exploitation long à démarrer, puis, chaque opérations avec le pointeur se faisait avec retard, voir pas du tout. La lecture de fichier sautaient, bref, le VS était devenu obsolète.
En parcourant ce forum dédié au VS (je remercie au passage le fondateur de ce site), j'ai effectué le mode test, un DSP (IC52) était en code=111. J'ai donc démonté ma carte mère, et repéré le fameux DSP motorola IC52 cité ci-dessus placés sous les cartes d'effets. Ce sont bien des 100 pins qui font peur à dépanner car minuscules. Je me suis dit, pas de panique, je vais tout d'abord tester les soudures une à une. Je vous rassure, bien que ce DSP ai 100 pins, ils ne sont pas tous utilisés. Voilà comment je m'y suis pris. Tout d'abord, pour bien y voir, j'ai placé une mini caméra USB au dessus du DSP défectueux, puis j'ai agrandi en utilisant un logiciel caméra. Au contour du DSP, des trous perforés sont prévus pour tester la continuité des soudure. Avec un multimètre réglé sur le mode continuité, j'ai donc testé toutes les pins connectées au DSP. Les soudures étaient toutes bonnes. Je me suis dis, cela se complique! J'ai commandé sur ALIEXPRESS 5 DSP motorola (au cas ou je me louperais). Je précise que je n'ai trouvé personne pour réparer ma CM et que je n'ai jamais fais d'électronique. Je me suis acheté une station de soudage avec air chaud et quelques accessoires (flux, pinces, fil cd'étain de 0.5). J'ai chauffé le DSP et je l'ai retiré. J' ai ensuite nettoyé les pistes avec une tresse à dessouder. J'ai placé le DSP gràce à la caméra grossissante, puis j'ai soudé les 4 coins (avec une pane très fine et recourbée) en vérifiant que le DSP soit parfaitement aligné. J'ai ensuite soudé chaque pin une à une (attention aux courts circuits). J'ai revérifié la continuité de chaque soudure cruciales et corrigé au besoin. Logiquement, les pins sont pré-étamée, il faut juste ajouter du flux. J'ai nettoyé avec de l'alcool à brûlé et une brosse à dent, essuyé le tout. J'ai remonté la carte et exécuté le test DSP! Tout les DSP sont ok. Je redémarre mon VS et miracle, tout fonctionne comme au premier jour. Il est rapide, les 4 cartes effets fonctionnent. En espérant que ce topic puisse un jour vous servir.
