Please Help, accidental HD format!

Greetings all, Just started a new account as I couldn't find my old login credentials and recovery email no longer in use...
Some background: I'm a longtime VS user and used the VS2480hd exclusively since 2001 for almost 12 years before moving to PTHD. I still kept the vs2480 as it held more than a decade of work and had a dual system setup via patchbay in the studio. Due to the challenge of exporting files efficiently into PT I kept older projects in the VS and started new ones in PT. As the years went by I used the VS less and less, however it still contained many unfinished projects and yesterday when I booted it up after a year or two of non-use it exhibited the crackling and popping issues on playback. Researching here on the forum I assume a recap likely is needed.
After leaving the unit on for a day the issue never resolved, so today I booted and and held (page + F1) to enter troubleshooting mode. However, I held F1 and page too long and the VS automatically started to reformat the HD with a decade of work! There was no warning message "Reformat drive, are you sure?" I tried to abort, it stopped, I rebooted and to my horror the partitions are all empty! I had hundreds of projects, some backed up but certainly not everything. The reformat process only took seconds but perhaps that's normal.
I'm absolutely devastated and I'm fearing the worst that nothing is recoverable. I've been searching for data recovery for VS2480 but not finding anything definitive.
Is all hope lost? Has anyone had any success recovering song files after an accidental reformat, either through professional data recovery, data recovery software, etc?
Let this be a warning not to hold (Page + F1) too long if entering troubleshooting mode, and/or backup everything or remove the HD if possible (not sure if you can enter troubleshooting mode without an HD installed).
Praying for good news but fearing the worst. Any help and insight is anxiously awaited and most appreciated.

Sorry, that's a little off topic ... Just walking by. Today one of my two machines (VS-2400) lost a playlist on SSD with our key music project, which we are preparing for release (our band https://www.babkinyvnuki.ru/ru/) ... The partition opens only the one initial project with a capacity of 2 KB, but the name of the partition indicates that the remaining free space on it is 0.7 GB!

Perhaps some internal error has occurred, or the SSD drive is failing. In general, this is close to a fiasco, but ... Fortunately, there are backups of most of the songs, but in the old versions. I will most likely have to re-record some live instruments and percussion ... Guys, archive your important projects on time!

I've been watching this thread - sorry you haven't gotten an answer from anyone with experience. Based on the concept that "format" simply removes the file structures and makes the media available for overwriting - there is hope that the actual data is still there. I'm sure you've seen the software tools available on the web that claim to recover such data. Seems worth a shot to me, but I have NO experience with any of them. Even if you recover "VS" files, without the proprietary Roland file structure there may be no way to extract wav files from them. Sorry to hear of your issue. Thanks for the warning. Hoping for a solution...

Hi Calypso, thanks for the words of encouragement. In my case, the disk has not been formatted (I'm not my own enemy ), apparently the project list was damaged due to internal error, and the projects themselves were intact. I will try to extract files through VS Wave Export...
