They do it to get around MRSP. ProAudioStar and Alto Music frequently do it, as sometimes do ZZounds and American Musical Supply. Now we know Chuck Levins does too!
Also, on Reverb and eBay, if you put something on your watchlist, you'll often get offers for a lower price from commercial sellers. You can even submit a counter offer.

I just bought 5 lb of beeswax from a vendor in eastern Ontario. I actually received 5.3 lb.
Regarding a stagebox, I use a Soundcraft MSB-16 with our Impact Si. What a great addition to multi-functional mixing board. Up to four hundred feet of CAT6 cable connectivity. A real game changer.

I shop for deals on music stuff: used, open box, last years version. Most recently I was looking for a Yamaha Dante stage box for my Tf1 mixer so I can bail on my 85lb copper snake. Chuck Levins in MD had a “used” stage box, version 1 of the model. Used these go for around $1200. Their price for one in “excellent” shape was$1050, free shipping. Sold. It arrived today..a brand new unopened unit with warranty and everything. This is the third time I’ve ordered something “used”, “demo” or open box where it was factory sealed. B&H did that and now two things off of Reverb I’m not complaining 
Kel, don't you just LOVE that when it happens? HUGE Congrats, man.
The last time that happened to me was for my Neumann KH310-A three-way tri-powered mid field Mastering Monitors (recommended by SOS magazine).
They were factory refurbished, and I got them for 24% off list from Alto Music. I was a bit hesitant to purchase them at first.
The BIG surprise was when I received them. The boxes were sealed, and upon opening, the monitors were physically in mint condition with warranty cards in each box!
I picked up a new 500W Dual-opposed, end-facing Dynaudio 18S sub (16Hz - 230Hz) a couple of months later for a great price from Sweetwater. Together they form an absolutely outstanding mastering audio system. And I can cut the sub in and out to check for non-full range mixes at will.
