To date, the only disappointment with the vs2400 has been is it's lack of a SCSI port.

I've just recently started finding out more about the SD conversions and even more recently about similar SCsI to ide coversions.

It occurred to me tonight that maybe someone here would know about adding a SCsi port somehow..possibly by converting the cable to the 2400 CD player to a 25 pin SCSI.
Unfortunately I had no luck doing a search on the subject here.
I have a spare vs1680 to sacrafice for it's scsi port if needed as well as an external drive and a few good CD players on hand...in comparison there seems little reason to trust the internal CD player of the 2400 for any real length of time,

Any thoughts or experience on the subject would be appreciated. Thanks in advance

Ok, well I imagine everyone's moved on to incorporating computers rather than SCSI drives and the CD players.
I guess if it could be done, it would have been done by now.

I'm not a 2400 owner/operator, but my gut says that adding SCSI to a machine which didn't have it designed in would be very difficult, and one might be surprised by a working SCSI, but loss of other functions.

My thought would be to replace the HDD with CF/SD/SSD which could then be read in a PC.

Just my musings.

Thanks for the reply, and I've got the same feeling...it probably would'nt work to change the CD player over to a sCSI port. The SD conversion is a good idea...although the whole attraction of the standalones is to avoid anything to do with computers!! For me personally, computers are strictly for porno.

Actually I've found that computers can be used for many things other than porno ....

Hi Redog
At my age pornos got more to do with shopping and reading gearslutz than donkeys and cream cheese.

It strikes me now that the Vs-2400 would'nt have the operating system to do the job.
I looked into what you suggested about transferring the SD drive and found out about using the vs logic program. 'Still trying to get my head around needing it or using it, but it's definitely an interesting option.

Since I need to put together a windows system in order to upgrade
my main recorder anyways, I'm kind of liking the idea of turning an old spare computer into a windows/roland CD machine in case the player in the 2400 packs it in one day.

The Vs-2400; "All the sound and no unsightly SCSI", Roland must have been up all night working that feature out.

Actually you could create a nice dual boot Windo$e / Linux machine from you old computer.

I always add Linux to old laptops as it costs zero $ and they run really well.

I run Linux on my Raspberry Pi 'computers' which are attached to my home network.

The Raspberry Pi hardware is not really much more than old dumb phones, but they are really useful - I use one as a media server i.e. store network accessible photos, music etc for the family, so they can back up onto their own file save areas etc. I use one as a source code repository for my software programming.

Check them out as you just add old drives to them once you decide to trash old machines.

Best of all they run on 5w --- that's right - FIVE WATTS ie powered by a phone charger - so they can be left on!

Oh and I'm sure you can save your cream cheese videos as well, he he...

woof.

I found it more useful to add an external esata hard drive.
I followed the lead of this cat:

http://blog.madbrain.com/2011/10/adding-esata-capability-to-roland-vs.html

and it works great. I used the same dock he mentions and the same card. It took maybe 20 minutes to wire it up.
it allows you to use esata for the drive when its on the Roland, and then usb to your pc, since most of my pc's don't have esata ports, the usb is handy to have.

don't really use the Cd for anything anymore. It looks like a standard laptop cd player/burner, shouldn't be hard to find a replacement.

It's odd that Roland dropped the SCSI but you haven't mentioned using the R-BUS connection. And I thought the 2400 had a USB out? I see the 2400 has the useless V-Link connection instead. Now I remember why roland pisses me off.
