Cry of Love "Peace Pipe"

Damn! I forgot all about this band and this song....Circa 1993, but it could've been released today because the lyrics are timely as hell.......this is the perfect southern rock song with the perfect lyrics for true outlaw country dudes that believe in just loving their neighbors and leaving others who don't share our faith the fuck alone (Iran).....

Myke, agree completely....Brother Cain was great too....really like everything I've heard from both bands....a bit ahead of their times....I really like bands like Blackberry Smoke, Rival Sons, etc., but I always thought bands like Cry of Love, Black Crows, Brother Cain, Drivn' N' Cryn', the Jayhawks, et al. already paved those roads.....

Okay Pop, that's not terrible, but I'm on the fence with Rock City Angels, just based on this one song you posted. I'll check them out later. Maybe some of their other material will speak to me...this is...um...average IMO...not horrible....just not as good as Cry of Love........Oh shit, the second song just came on....yeah, not my thing.....

Fair enough. I think they are the only time I agreed with a Rolling Stone review...usually, if they give something 4 or 5 stars, I won't even bother to listen.

Almost exactly 20 years ago I walked into the Curtain Club here in Deep Ellum with some musician friends. We were just out on the town that night and just randomly wandered in to catch a set from Brother Cain. They KILLED it that night. Blew us away. Great live band for sure.

That Rock City Angels song sounds a bit like Enuff Z'Nuff lite to me.

I alway really dug Brother Cain; however, people would say the vocalist sounded like (someone else....forget who now ), which might have hampered them. Too bad, really. Very good songs...and Wishpool is an excellent album from front to back.

Some other not so well guitar based bands (basically) of the time that I like and think that never really got their due, off the top of my head (I'll make the vids small to not take up too much room):

Must (Androgynous Jesus)

I Mother Earth (Scenery and Fish)

Gods Child (Aluminum)

Dishwalla (Pet Your Friends...I love the song Give, second below. Popmann, that song should be right up your alley, kinda reminds me of you, especially the Hammond):

Lots of other great music of the era, just sorta thinking out loud here.

Re: Cry of Love "Peace Pipe"

GC released a new album like .. last year or the year before. It was good.

I like most of those from Space In Your Face, particularly Do What I Do (the last vid), but I think my favorite from that album is "About Mrs. Leslie", kind-of a great guitar riff on that one. I like some of the later stuff too - lots of great and sort-of kinky riffs.

Monty Colvin, their bass player and one of the lead writers and singers is really talented.

I saw them open for King's X at Axis in Boston some years ago and they were really great. They were all in when they performed. Really a shame they didn't get a little more success. Well, that was true of both those bands, really. Just didn't catch a break.

Enuff’s Strength is desert island material. I don’t hear anything similar really-but, there’s obviously the common thread that I loved both as a teen....

I was a fan of Galactic Cowboys back in the day and Enuff Znuff too....love Enuff Z...way underrated IMO.....Dishwalla was great too, but they didn't hit my radar until early 96 with the Blue Car tune.......lots of good music and bands referenced here.....
