Formating for installing V3 card.

Hi all.

I am getting ready to install a new V3 card and there seems to be a lot of talk about formatting the hard drive. Roland recently updated the software on the machine for me and I have a new bigger hard drive in it. I don't see why the hard drive would need to be reformatted to install an fx card. My main concern is just loosing client music files that have been recorded and saved on the drive. Can anyone help me with understanding how this install works and whether, or not I need to be concerned about the audio files on my hard drive? Thanks.

Re: Formating for installing V3 card.

Two things -

1- the 3-card uses an entire partition of your hard drive.
2- backup all of your important client work to a second media - especially now, before you install a card that needs to use part of your hard drive!

Re: Formating for installing V3 card.

The 3 card plugins all get installed to the same partition of the hard drive, but just a very very small amount (no more than 200MB), not the entire partition gets used by them.

You don't need to format the drive. However, keep a fresh set of cdr backups of your plugins, just in case something ever does go wrong with the hard drive.

Installing plugins won't do anything to the hard drive.

Regardless of plugins, regardless of hard drive running good or bad, always keep your work backed up - all of it! Losing work is heartbreaking.
