OK......A few years later and I'm actually close to being finished. Many hours of sweat, swearing and blood (from time to time) and a whole lotta learning along the way. Room inside a room concept, all stud joints screwed tight with sill gasket in between, 6 layers of 5/8" gyproc on resilient channel, knock-down stucco finish and a 3-door entry system. Needs some sound treatment, although it's an odd shape so that helps.

She's full of XLR, digital coax, optical, RG45, midi, video/mouse lines and instrument cable. The 2480 is controllable from the mixing desk, midi station and vocal booth. Now I guess it's time to make the switch from construction to production.

It may be small...............but it's got potential. Sorry 'bout the pics (I'm OK with a skill saw but horrible when it comes to digital photography).

Mixing Desk (complete with Canadian beer)

Midi Station

Guitar Station

Vocal Booth

Input Routing

The guitar input is routed through a Boss line switcher, into a VHT Valvulator, through a Mesa High Gain Amp Switch (Jensen transformers), and split 4 ways to a Rocktron Prophesy, direct to the 2480, a feed to an amp in the booth (with option to rout through Hush Super C) and an extra feed to any future processor I may never be able to afford (i.e. VG-88).

2480 sync'd to hardware sequencer with links to keyboard controller and Dm Pro drum module with Roland and Pintech triggers.

No outboard preamp yet but some instruments will get A/D conversion through the MPX1 direct to the 2480 via digital coax. Neumann TLM 103, Beta 87A and a variety of cheap mics.

Probably grab a sansamp bass DI in the near future (although so many other things on the wish list).

Anyway, it's a start!

Jaz, Frank - thanx for the cudos. The only person who has seen this yet is my wife and she just looks like a deer in headlights when she pops in to see what I'm doing.

Jeff, I have a 3rd monitor and a mouse in the vocal booth (split from the VS by a KVM switch).

Cheers,

Kent

Based on previous posts, there's actually a fair number of guys using the KVMs to enable remote controlling of the 2480. Works pretty slick, although you have to ensure to use good quality video feed if you are using LCD flat screens.

My longest feed is 25 feet to the midi station and even with the high-end video cable I notice some degredation on the flat screen compared to the monitor at the control desk.

Nice studio, you've done a good job, and I noticed your Lexicon MPX-1 - I have one too and like it very much!

You have created a nice place to work in, and I hope you record fine songs in there - good luck!!!

Robin,

Thanx for the encouraging words. Hopefully I won't have to sit around too long waiting for inspiration to set in.........just long enough to catch my breath would be good.

There are actually 6 or 7 guys in my immediate area who own 2480s, some of whom I'll be working on projects with. Now if I could just figure out how to send project file information to them via the internet I'd be all set.

Hey Maurice,

I actually had a lava lamp in there last week but it took about a day to warm up enough to work so I turfed it as space is at a premium! Which means I now have about enough room for a nice comfortable mixing chair or a beer fridge.

Hmmmmmm.........better go for the chair if Terry is expecting an album by the end of the week. \:D
