Hey wizards!
My friend just bought the BR800 yesterday, and it worked great for jamming to, but as soon as we decided to try any multitracking, our options were limited. Anyone have any advice on how to be able to simply record 1, 2, or even 3 tracks individually, or together, without tracking all 4, or in stereo on tracks 1 & 2? It seems odd that we can not pick only 1 track, when practically EVERY Boss unit I have dealt with gives you the option of using as many inputs available to track as many (or few) tracks as desired.
Here is what we tried...
My friend had the guitar lined into input 1 through the recording out on a Cube 20, and I was running the bass into input 2 through a Zoom processor. For some reason, we can only record those simultaneously as a stereo recording. (?)
Why can we not record these tracks as individual mono tracks? We don't want to just use the Hi-z and track 4, which seems to be only option we have.
When we try "input 1-4" all 4 tracks light up in record mode. In the "mode" option on input 1-4, there is only the 4track record option, and the simultaneous track option doesn't even appear.

Sounds like you haven't bothered to read the manual.... or at least not very completely.

A quick browse of the downloadable pdf http://www.bossus.com/backstage/product_manuals/
describes 4 different recording "modes".... one of them is two-track at once (not stereo), which is what you want.
I would have to guess that you've chosen the wrong "mode".

Download the manual and test all four modes to get some experience on what's what.

It'll be a lot more fun to use for serious stuff after you've tried a few test runs to find out how it works.... Read the manual! It'll be worth taking a few minutes to consult it while trying out what it describes.

Best of luck.

Hi Uptildawn.

I should have been more clear in that we did scour the manual, only to find that the "simul record" listed on page 36 of the manual does not apply to the "tracks 1-4" option. For some reason, it is only for the stereo mode, and in the "tracks 1-4" mode, the only modes available are all 4 tracks, or simply 1 track at a time. I don't get why that is.

But it appeared that the manual was saying there was a way to record two individual tracks while using the stereo mode if I remember correctly.... I'm very tired at the moment.

I'm not sure why it wouldn't work that way, but not much else I can offer without having one to muck around with myself.

Yeah, that is what we thought as well, so when we went into the stereo mode, we were hopeful that we could divide it into simply 2 mono signals, but unfortunately, was not the case. Kinda frustrating, as it seems like a simple enough option. I mean, even the BR8 was capable of 2 individual tracks for recording, and this one isn't? Thanks for the help anyhow!

Sorry to hear you've run up against one more of Roland's built-in brick walls.... It is frustrating to say the least... especially with a company known for its high quality products and a technology that has advanced so far as to be able to easily accommodate every single little feature advantage these units COULD be capable of produing within their overall design/price limits.
