How should I go about installing a 2nd VS8F-3 (with several 3rd party plug-ins authorized to it) when I already have a -3 installed as my key card (in slot A) that has only the Roland bundle authorized? Uninstall the current bundle and start over with the 2nd card in slot A? I can try different scenarios. Are there any potential pitfalls from which I can't recover?

Take the VS8F-3 out of the A slot, and put the other VS8F-3 card into the A slot, so that you can install the software plug-ins onto the new card. After they're installed, you can move the VS8F-3s around to any card slot you want (just don't skip a slot...like, if you only have 1 VS8F-2 and 2 VS8F-3s, they must go in slots A, B, and C (can't put one in the D slot unless it is the 4th card)

Hope that makes sense, Neosay.

Cheers,
Eric

Hey Eric,
I bought a used -3 card on E-bay a while back and since I had to change the fader board this weekend I installed the 3 card in D
when I had it upside down, according to what I can understand from the confusing manual. However, the comment above has me curious.
Am I getting it? Am I understanding that I should have taken out my current key card and put this used one in slot A in order to install the other plug ins I have? That didn't jump out at me from the VS8F-3 manual. Danmed words!!!
Here is what I have. Slot A & B VS8F-3
Slot C VS8F-2
Slot D VS8F-3
Is there any problems with this set up?
Any words of clarification will be greatly appreciated as I just don't understand the Roland thinking behind all this shtuff.
Thanks
John

Hi John,
Sorry, I don't come 'round to the VS8F3 board often. Lets see if I can help...
If you've already installed the plug-ins to one (or more) of the VS8F-3 cards, then after they're installed, you can move the cards around and put them in any slot you want to. (You just have to make sure that you fill the slots up in order with effects cards - for example, if you have 4 cards, which you do, you can't remove the card in the A slot - the machine won't recognize the other 3 cards left in slots B, C, & D.)
If you still need to install and authorize plug-ins, then place the VS8F-3 card you're going to 'key' it with into slot A.
If you've formatted the hard drive and you want to re-install your plug-ins, then you have to do so with the proper VS8F-3 card in slot A that you originally authorized those plug-ins to (that particular card.)
Hope that makes sense and helps!
Cheers,
Eric
PS If you ever need anything right away, just pm me.
