Hi Randy. Thanks for the response. Yeah, I was thinking the same thing about the SMF update. The more I think about the routing issue, the more I'm convinced that it's a matter of saving it as an EZRouting user-template, the same as you'd do on a VS.
The unit keeps the time and date so I believe the battery is ok, though it may be worth changing out just for peace of mind. It is indeed an older system, probably first-generation, but it's in excellent condition. So far everything works and nothing's missing (knobs, buttons, etc.) It needs to be loaded up with fx cards though. It has the on-board processor with room for 3 VS8F-2 cards. It already has the 3 R-Bus cards and the cascade kit installed, so expanding won't be much of a problem when the right deal comes along.
I am quite impressed with what the VM7100 is capable of. I was very satisfied with the mix by the time the first song was done. I walked around the room of about 300 seated people and about 50 standing. The mix was warm and clear, and filled the room without deafening anyone up front. And get this: All I was using for mains was a pair of PV 300-watt 15" full-range speakers on stands powered by a Crown MX602 (I think that's the model). I got a lot of compliments on the sound at the end of the night.
Ray

You may want to contact Roland directly as they support these mixers.

Has anyone used a VM-7100 as a control surface for a DAW an if so how did you hook it up?
