Long a go I had a BR-532 I really liked it but because it had had only 4 tracks I wanted to get something a little more heavy duty. I got a good deal on a used Roland VS1880. It definitely is more professional. But just the fact that it comes with 3 manuals lets you know it takes a lot more knowledge to produce good sounding music than the BR. I record my own songs as a hobby and to torture my friends. Sometimes I will go months without touching my VS1880 and it always takes awhile to figure out how to do things. I now have a chance to pickup a BR1180CD. The question is do I stick with the VS1880 or go with the BR1160CD? Anyone out there ever use both? What do you think??

I have used a VS880EX and now have a BR1600CD. I'm still getting my hands (and head) around the BR1600, but it is a great recorder. It seems easy to navigate. The manual is good. That said, I liked how the VS880EX looked far better than the BR1600CD.

im on my 2nd hard drive in the br1600...i also have a vs880ex that has never givin me any problems and has a million miles on it.
the br1600 has a ton more bells and whistles...but the sound quality is equal on both machines.
with that said i wish i picked up a bigger vs unit
they are way more dependable

I have Br1600 that was my first digital multitrack and i thought it took me forever to learn to use it.. moved up to a used vs2480
(acutally have two)....no comparison..the BR is really easier to use but the first time you look at the big screen on a vs 2480.. you will never go back... 2480's are going for 700- 1500 on ebay. and they are work horses..
