Recovering recording sessions from VS-840, VS-880, VS-890, VS-1680 backup CDs by using Reaper with it's VS plugin appears to be the best and easiest way to have your old sessions on your computer. The easy process is listed in this PDF at this address:
http://www.marahaleymusic.com/collabs/rdac_to_wav.pdf
Also I have now located everything in a single folder for simplicity.

Frustration has led me to this. Roland caused this by not helping us convert these disc years ago.
Everything is explained; from the locations of the applications needed, the process in which to rip the B/U CDs and the process to import them into Reaper.
When the session opens in Reaper EVERYTHING is in proper time order and ALL track including sub-tracks are in the mix window. Best of all Reaper is ALMOST free. You are able to try it out for 30 days and for some that may be long enough to recover what they need. After that you need a license. You may find that you like this DAW as it is quite nice in comparison to Sonar, Pro Tools, Logic, and the many others I have used. It even has track folders! Pretty interesting.
I successfully ripped 56 VS backup CDs to separate folders and can now open them in Reaper as though I saved them there with Reaper to begin with. I hope this finally helps ex-VS users like myself recover their long lost sessions.
This is for us who spent many dollars with Roland over the years and have had sessions in-limbo for a DECADE!
Problem SOLVED!
Thanks to the creators of Cd2Roland ripper, Reaper and the Reaper VS plugin!

I can't even explain how happy this makes me. I've been holding on to my band's first record for 11 years hoping to find something like this. Now I can remix and master for our reunion show.
Thank you and everyone who made this possible. If you're ever in San Diego, I owe you all a beer

Hello,
This all sounds wonderful, but I cannot get my pc to read any of my VS-880 cds. When I put them in the drive, they all just come up empty, I have a number of disks and they all load into the Roland just fine, but all my laptops just see them as blank. Is this normal, is there a step I am missing?
Thanks,
Jeff

Okay, I might have solved my own problem. You have to run cd2roland in dos to extract the data, is this right. I can update after it finishes.

Yes the cd2roland.exe program can only be run from a "dos" command window.
Easist way to do it is to make a .bat file with 2 lines from notepad
cd2roland (your cd drive letter) pause
Save this as rip.bat and put it in the same directory as the cd2roland.exe. Now you can just click on the bat file from windows.
