He made it to Idaho. We should sponsor the lad for something. How many miles does he have left?

Damn it... I am going to be gone out to California from about the 12th to the 20th of July
Watching your progress I think this may be when you cross through Colorado....
I would really consider driving up to meet you if I was around...
Do give me a call and let me know when you know when you will be going through Pueblo Colorado. I PM'd you my phone earlier...

Hmmm looking at the map, you are not going to be in any city of size until Missoula Montana
I did a quick look on the web - there appear to be about 8 big bike shops in Missoula Montana
The only one I could see information about Brooks saddles is REI, and they show no stock on any Brooks saddles. Maybe one of the others will have one - they don't really list stock. I can do some checking for you but it will have to be on Monday when they are open.
In fact the only place I see that lists stock on a BROOKS B17 CHAMPION is in Boulder Colorado.
Damn, those things are pricey - a Brooks B17 champion lists at $170
Give me the exact model you need, and I will try to run one down for you. Maybe I can get it shipped to a bike store in Missoula.
I can do some checking.. but it will probably have to be on Monday

Missoula shows as 250 miles from New Meadows where you are now. And basically nothing in between.
There are a couple small town - Grangeville - about 80 miles north of you and then Kooskia about 25 miles past that, and then about 140 miles of NOTHING
Your arse is going to be mighty pinched by then.... get some duct tape...

Bear that's great info thanks. The model I want is a brooks b17 champion. It the model with no springs under my arse..the bike shop will know the one. If it can be shipped to Missoula that would be ace. I can get them a credit card number. phone connection s seem few and far between out here..got WiFi on park here. Oh the saddle should be in tan colour not black I will also try to hunt one down but if you can help I'd be very appreciative mate :))))

Man - the B17 champion is very hard to find in the US
B17 Standard is pretty available
B17 Special is pretty available
B17 Team Professional is pretty available
B17 Narrow is pretty available
B17 Imperial is pretty available
B17 Select is pretty available
So far the only place I see that even mentions the B17 Champion is the shop in boulder Colorado, and direct shipment from the UK
I can check with the Boulder shop tomorrow to see if they really have stock
Or you can check for yourself, if you have wireless access - here is their website.

what a cool read - glad you're handling the weather well - i promise the states get smaller the further east you go rolf (with the exception of Montana) - can't wait to meet you.

Guess what I need is to have one to collect in Missoula...ill c if I can find a bike shop there who can get one but its easier by phone ...do you think you could call one for me if I get you my credit card details? I don't have time to wait for e mail and if I have WiFi on next town or not...I think I'm asking you to literally save my ass here lol!

You'll wish you lived in Missoula....and never rode a bike through those roads the entire time you're passing through MT.
Let me know if you need any "assistance" in Missoula. I would recommend stopping there for a couple days.

I will call the bike stores I see on the web in Missoula tomorrow and see if any stock a B17 standard. I see it comes in Black, Honey and Brown (pretty dark). I assume when you say tan, you want the Honey.
I do see three bike stores in Portland that show stock on the B17 standard. Maybe if none of the stores in Missoula stock it, the Timster can help get one to you....
Or we can work on getting one shipped into Missoula from some online seller somehow. The trick is figuring out who to ship it to....

Rolf...Monday morning call 406-543-6623.
This is the number to the Missoula Chamber of Commerce.
Tell them you are a foreigner and are riding through MT and need a place to receive a new bike seat.
The president/CEO is Kim Latrielle.....Instead of calling I would highly recommend you just show up in person at 825 E. Front St and they will likely do what they can to help.
Play your cards right.
Oh...and enjoy MT.

Looks to me like it is going to be real empty between Kooskia and Missoula... make sure you are carrying enough food - you are going to be following a river so water is probably OK
I do not know what your maps show but GOOGLE maps show NOTHING except one travel lodge and rafting outlet up a ways from Kooskia, and then absolutely NOTHING
I bet it is going to be just gorgeous country though
I asked the guy at the bike store if he could hold the saddle and he just laughed and said he really doubted it would get sold in the next 2 or 3 days...

bear did say there was basically nothing between Kooskia and Missoula and according to Google, it's around 150 mi so three days doesn't sound out of the question.
