The Default Resolution actually Forces the rez.......if you have the default set to 44.1, and you try to change to 48, SONAR slapps it back to 44.1 regardless. Very annoying.

What version of Sonar does that?

I haven't had that experience before... but haven't been using sonar since 8.5.

Are you meaning at the very start of a project or in the middle of it?

well...its the latest greatest version. Cant remember what its called...but I LOVE it...dockable screens...lots of custimization.

So the deal is.....the "default setting" was 44.1. I made a new project . after the creation I set the rez to 48. unbeknownst to me it either didn't take or flipped back to 44.1. So I was expecting it to be 48, made it be the master clock, syncd the 2480 in a 48k file to it......so when I recorded in the 2480 the clock was spiinning slower, but the file got tagged as 48k.

So I export the 2480 file to the PC. Its tagged as 48 but it was actually recorded using a 44.1 clock. So the player says "oh, you have a 48k file, I'll play at 48....." so now the file sounds too fast and high. Very fucked up.

Bottom line....if you don't change the "default rez" setting in SONAR to your current rez, your gonna be hosed cuz its gonna reset itself to whatever is in that box.

Although I've never tried using one before, I know from conversations on the SAW forum that there are programs that can allow you to edit the file's info so that it's sample rate matches with what's on the recording.... if you know what I mean...

I'd check to see which programs have been used to do this and what the process is called, except that SAW's message board is down.

You could always play the file from the PC at the too fast speed, while recording it to the 2480 with the correct sample rate/recording mode, but with the Vari-Speed turned up, so when you turn it off the file plays at the right speed.

I am afraid I don't know the answer to this problem JazAddict. Sorry I can't be of any help.
So you must be using Sonar X1 or X2. I bought Sonar X1 about 10 months or so ago and have never used it even once. I still use Sonar 8.5 PE. They practically gave X1 away so I bought it but it is just sitting there unused. I guess I will use it sometime in the future.

its not a big deal...now that I know. Yah...X1. Really dig it. The thing you will find annoying comin from 85 is the menu structure changed. Otherwise, I love it.

I'm not lookin to fix it. I'll just do it over...no biggie.

So its under the "Driver settings" "Default Settings for New projects" "Sample Rate"

It should REALLY say "Way to over-ride the change you just made to a new sample rate back to this default without telling you"

I have run into your problem before Jazz- there is a way to alter the resulting wav file so it plays correctly at the actual speed recorded...

I have done it manually before with a hex editor, but I also found a little utility to do it somewhere... let me see if I can find it....

YEAH! That's the one everybody is always talking about and I've never tried before! Rail's got some pretty useful stuff.
