So I have all these different mid size (375ml) bottles of bourbon lying around. Long story.
I know nothing about bourbon and have never really liked Whiskey but here's my analysis.
Makers Mark....not bad. Seemed alright too me.
Next up is Knob Creek.
What are considered the good ones? I think I pretty much have them all here.
And besides coke (I don't really like colas) what are some good mixes for this crap. Because Gatorade...which is what I've been using....doesn't really seem all that proper.

you know, i appreciate a good whiskey... but for regular coke and whiskey-type drinks, i find that Ancient Age is a good choice.
for sippin', i like Woodford Reserve

Well I found out I don't like Knob Creek. Waaaaay too strong tasting. Makers Mark is much smoother.
I like the Ginger Ale idea Gonzo thanks. I'll pass on the mint and lime though.
I don't really drink soda as a rule but Ginger Ale is good stuff and I also like those San Pellegrino flavored sparkling waters so I might give them a try too.

Love Maker's Mark. Add it to Apple Cider...delish.
Otherwise, Ginger ale or even 7-Up works.

When I drink bourbon whiskey it’s usually either Irish (Jameson) or good ole Jack Daniels...and I either drink it in hot tea during the winter or straight….why?...because I’m a real man with hair on my balls….that’s how it was intended to be taken (straight!)…..that is, unless you’re not straight, in which case there’s nothing wrong with that, per-se, nancy boy.

I like Maker's Mark straight up.
Basil Hayden's is quite nice, too.
JD is crap, IMNSHO. "Gentleman Jack," however, is tolerable.
Jameson or Dewers is quite good. ESPECIALLY in an "Irish Car Bomb."

I used to drink a lot of Jack Daniels black label. I think it tastes different now days or my taster is different. I started drinking Jack/gingerale on air planes.
Now a days I dont drink whiskey much. When I do it's straight or with rocks. The above topshelf ones mentioned above mostly.
I do drink Crown Royal some but I don't really call it whiskey. It helped me kick the single malt scotch craze that was eating at my finances.
In the old days we young ones used to buy Cabin Still - price. We renamed it Stab and Kill. Had to use 7up or Squirt to get it down.

Jim Beam Black. Kosher Coke. 60/40ish favoring the bourbon.
I don't like cola either. Not the point...it's a combination flavor.

gretsch, neither jameson's nor jack daniels are bourbon - jameson's is irish whiskey and jack daniel's is sourmash whiskey made in tennessee.
drinking it straight is the preferred method w/ good hootch other wise water it down w/ whatever.

The Knob Creek isn't too bad.....I just had to let it breathe like a wine and that smoothed it out a bit.
Still like Makers Mark better though as of this second.

Don't like vodka at all. The stuff just puts me to sleep.
In fact the only liquor I like is Gin. As in Gin and Tonic.
I remember in Italy a popular drink was Southern Comfort and OJ. Seemed kind of gross to me but I don't like Southern Comfort.

That's a bit strong (content wise) for me.
I'm no light weight....but I also don't generally drink liquor so I have to watch out.
Found that out the other night with the Makers Mark. Turns out even watered down you can't just sip it like it's a beer.
This stuff has a way of creeping up on me if I'm not careful.
I literally have almost zero experience with drinking Whiskey. I've always been a beer and wine guy with the occasional Gin and Tonic during the summer months.

I like Maker's Mark. I can't take a drink called "Knob Creek" seriously, for the same reason I couldn't behave myself at a ski resort, called "Beaver Creek".

For me, it's the "name stuff"...Jim Beam, George Dickle, Jack Daniels (although it's a sour mash, it's generally included in discussions about "bourbon"), Wild Turkey. Maker's mark is OK, but not in the same league for me anyway.
I think that good whiskey shouldn't be mixed...whether it's scotch, bourbon whatever. Have it on ice if you like, but I don't really like mixed drinks much. If you're going to do mixed drinks, they'll be better with good whiskey (DUH!), though purists will cringe that you put "the good stuff" in there. Other spirits like some rum and vodka beg to be mixed, just because they're basically just water and alcohol. If you wanna have mixed drinks, it only makes sense to use a spirit that doesn't have much going on for itself anyway. If you wanna get blasted on mixed drinks...try a "Long Island Iced Tea". Properly made, the stuff actually tastes and looks a lot like iced tea, but will absolutely put you "three sheets to the wind" in no time.
I had the opportunity last year to try some Chilean Pisco of the "Great" denomination (like brandies can be "VS", "VSOP" etc., the "great" class of Pisco is top of the heap. The stuff is very strong and has a lot of character, pretty neat. I'm told that a similar beverage called "puro" is popular in South America and that it's REALLY strong (like our "moonshine"), but haven't had that...although I have had white lightning and that was ridiculous.

Allegedly for mixing only, this is 79% ABV I have drunk stronger - over 90 - but I can't remember much about it.
Interesting, the different spellings of 'whisky/whiskey' - without an 'e' the origin is Scottish, with, it's Irish. Must say something about the original distillation methods in the States - Maker's is a 'whisky', whereas Jim B. is a 'whiskey'.

Any liquor with color = hangover (for me)
Any mixer with color = sugar = hangover
I guess that's why I only drink vodka

Slightly OT but that reminds me of this stuff I had last week. My sister had two bottles of this rum from the Dominican Republic of which I polished off one. I can't stand Rum and yet I was able to drink this stuff straight no problem. If you like Rum I highly recommend getting your hands on this. Here's a pic I took of the bottle....Brugal.

Also I've decided I don't like Knob Creek for the same reason I don't like 30 year old single malt scotch.
I don't like tasting the barrel....that smoky wood taste leaves a nasty after taste in my mouth. The longer this stuff is aged the more barrel one tastes. In fact that bottle of 30 year old single malt I bought a few years back (not cheap) tasted like nothing but a burnt tree. A smooth burnt tree...but a burnt tree nonetheless.

OK - I picked up some "Whiskey Stones". They are made of soap stone and you put them in the freezer for a long while and use them as ice. They don't get your drink as cold as ice but they don't melt and dilute the drink. And they stay cold a lot longer than same amount of ice. They will take some getting used to.
