Hello All,
I'm new to the forum and in need of some advice. I'm looking for a replacement set-up cd for a vs8f3 card. I contacted both the customer support and parts department at Roland with no luck. In fact they were quite rude about it. Can anyone steer me in the right direction? Thanks.

Cheers

I'm in a predicament similar to djtoc's -- I just bought at 2480 and one of the effects boards is a VS8F-3. The seller didn't have the set-up CD, either. What I understand, though, is that the set-up CD has a security key code that's unique to each individual F-3 board, and without it, the board is useless, even if you have the set-up CD. Have I heard wrong? Is it possible to get even limited use out of the F-3 board without having the security code? Any info would be most helpful. Thanks!

BrooklynEd, you should be able to use the card right now. And, you should be able to install software onto that card and use it in your machine.

The set up CD had some programs on it that are nice to have, and they may already be on your card. That's the main thing that you lose without the set up CD. Otherwise, what you've heard about is that the CD-RW for new software "couples" with the VS8F-3 card that it's installed on. So, if you go to install a program from a disc that's already been installed on another 3 card, that won't work. But that's not the card, that's the program's CD-RW because it's been coupled with another card. Point being, your card should work fine for you and accept any new software you put on it as well as running any software already on it.

The above is true-- however, be advised that if you format your drive without backing up, you'll lose the 3-card effects.

I was able to purchase a new setup CD directly from Roland about 18 months ago.

Your VS8F-3 card should have the stock Roland plug-ins (5 of them) installed on the hard drive. Have you pulled them up yet and experimented with them? I'd recommend you go to the "CD Mastering" menu, drop down to "Back up plug-ins", and make a backup copy of the Roland effects plug-ins. The backup disc it creates will now be your 'setup' disc, so it won't hurt if you format the HD.

GOod luck,
Eric
