I am going to buy a computer to use with Sonar X2. What is the best computer to use? If I make sure that I have the recommended amount of Ram and storage, is that all I need to be concerned with? Maybe someone can give me some answers on this. I want to get what I need but would like to stay on a budget as well. Thanks

I procrastinated for a long time over the same guestion and finally pulled the trigger after some research.
I bought an Intel(R)Core(TM) i5-3570 CPU @ 3.40 GHz 3.8 GHz
Memory - 16GB Ram
Type - 64 Bit System with Windows 7 Pro SP1
This has worked great, really fast and no bottlenecks so far! I loaded Sonar 7 Home Studio XL to test it(my old DAW)and works perfectly.
I Bought Sonar X2 Producer 64 Bit(Box set) and hope to download it this week. I'm no computer expert, just take the computer part of recording one step at a time and learn from my mistakes.Post your question on "Zzat Guys" and you should get more hits and ideas

Not a lot of action here but here's my update.
The day I received Sonar X2 Producer I got an email that Sonar X3 is available to download. Anyway,a few weeks ago I spent 2 days downloading Sonar X2 and all my other software(only screemed once) and getting it all to function.I had previously bought some software from Sweetwaters, they gave me some excellent technical support for setting my system up and getting all the plugins in order.I'm recording with the VS2 and sending wave files via USB to the computer and into SonarX2.I've mixed a few projects and really like the layout and all the mixing, virtual instruments and editing features etc and unlimited tracks.I've used Protools which is great, but I'm really enjoying using this DAW and the new computer.

glad to hear. Long time SONAR user here.

I've decided to build myself a dedicated PC for my studio for xmas.

I'd been looking at laptops, and realized that for the same money I could build a whole separate desktop and leave my current for surfing and gaming.

I'm lookin at an ASUS Z87-A motherboqrd Its a socket 1150, expandable 32GB (16 to start), and takes VERY zippy ram (2800). It also has regular ole PCI slots for my Delta RBUS card. I could get either a PCI or PCI-express VirDis card.

I'll get 16 GB of 2133 RAM. Its a nice price break....any faster is quite a bit more.

I'll get a I7 4770. 3.4 ghz CPU

I'm gettin 2 Toshiba 2TB HD's . I'm debating about stealing my 64gb SSD for the OS from my "old" gaming box to save a few $$....onthe other hand, they're REALLY cooooming down in price, so....

video, a box and a KVM to switch my keyboard, mouse, sound & video between PC's. I've had 2 monitors at work....its nice, but I just don't need it and it'd croud my available space in teh studio.

All that for under $900. Not bad. Sonar rox.

Hey JazAddict, that looks like a great system you're putting together,$900.for all that is excellent.I was thinking about the i7 also, which has really good specs.I've also kept my old 10yr old computer with WindowsXP and 4gb ram for another workstation(still runs great).
I'm looking to bye a mid priced, higher end sound card with stable drivers but I'm not sure what to get .

The whole PCI thing is how I got started on this ..... I was whining to Bear that my old socket775 chip doesn't have any motherboards available w/ PCI anymore. He told me to llook at a newer chip & sure enough, LOTS of PCI.

So hopefully your PC has the right slot for the RME's that Bear is sellin.

RME HDSP is really nice. I am still using a RME DIGI9652. It really works well with a quadcore and 4 GB ram and two harddisks.
I am on WINDOWS & 32 bit for that.

I do have a laptop with 4GB Ram core2duo and two hardisks. And now a V-fire. I was surprised I can get 64 samples out of that aswell.

Just upgraded my DAW (SonarX2 Producer)to SonarX3a Producer which took most of yesterday to get things in order. At first it didn't seem like a big change but after playing around there are a lot of great improvements and add ons!Came with Celemony Melodyne,Addictive Drums2(which sound great),tape emulation plugin, improved clip comping, selective colour matching for tracks and busses,Nomad factory plugins, many Virtual instruments, and much more. The Pro Channel that can be applied to each track is really nice. This cost $99 and well worth it(IMHO).
All the plugins ,virtual drums(EZD2) scanned automatically and my projects that were in my SonarX2 Daw were loaded into my SonarX3 Producer DAW when I opened it up.Then I updated to the latest version which is SonarX3e Producer from SonarX3a,that was easy and only took a few minutes.I recommend this upgrade, working perfect.Any thoughts on this?
