For anybody that knows this stuff...
Will an ACARD AEC-7722 bridge http://dl.acard.com/manual/english/7722(E).pdf
work in place of the ACARD AEC-7720 that I keep reading about (and have used myself) to adapt the internal CF to IDE reader to SCSI enclosure for use on the VS scsi port?

from the manual

*****AEC-7722 supports DVD drives. *****

AEC-7726H/Q, ARS-
2100/2100Q, ARS-2120 and ARS-2000LFS support 3.5” IDE hard drives.

ARS-
2000LHS supports 2.5” IDE notebook hard drives. All the devices are easily
connected to SCSI bus.

Are you trying to hook up a DVD drive?

No.
I want to use this for a ide drive or cf reader to ide adapter like I did with the 7720U.

The two adapters are listed side-by-side in this compatability list: http://dl.acard.com/download/compitibility%20list/SCSIDE%20Bridge%20for%20ODD.pdf

So.......
does anybody know of an alternative bridge adapter I could be looking for that would work instead of the 7720U, which seems to be a rarity, used, lately.

7722 does NOT work for this application........ too bad, 'cause I could find those cheap.

thanks for the clarification. i almost ordered one as the website states that it's backward compatible.

I would wonder why not then...

Bear's response to my original question says it, I think:

*****AEC-7722 supports DVD drives. *****

"Are you trying to hook up a DVD drive?"

I didn't get it back then, either...

seems there's only two or three bridge cards that work for what we want.... at least one is no longer made and difficult to find. The others are available, new, but hardly ever used anymore. Bummer, because, like bear, the first couple I bought were used and only around $35... The third one I bought to help a friend make a mod and cost me over $100....... I gave up when the next one (and each after that) were running nearly $200, or more.

Did Bear meant that the 7722 only supports DVD drives? co I was planning to get a cheap IDE DVD to work with the VS.

And to my very pleasant surprise, my relative hold the distribution of Acard products so I shouldn't have any problems getting hold of any of the models. It is just which ones and how expensive it is.

The other option that was given to me was a 3rd party SCSI-IDE bridge that has similar specs to the 7722 at a fraction of the cost, so that is a very good deal. The only thing is that is a special order, meaning I would not get to try it before deciding purchase.

Under the Acard FAQ section, think it states that 7722 runs in LVD mode and 7720 in SE mode. So if i understand it correctly, it might be the VS doesn't support LVD?

I don't know whether or not your VS will work with a DVD drive at all. I was responding to the notion that the 7722 might/could work as a bridge for the SD/CF card mods this thread was about. It does not work for that purpose.

Beyond that, you'll need to do more research.
