What happens when the battery needs replacment? Does the 2480 tell you when it's time to replace it?

The VS usually says some thing about the sub system not working, no battery warning from the VS, just change it every 5 years. It's a watch style battery, CR2032 I think, maybe somebody else will confirm. The battery is in the effects card section under the panel on the bottom of the VS. Hope this helps Frank

CR2032 is correct. Don't forget to unplug the unit from the wall before digging around inside... don't want to accidentally short something out.

Thanks.
I bought my first 2480 in 2003 or 2004. I never changed the battery and I've never had any sign that it's not working properly. That's at least 10 years. No issues whatsoever. But I hear ya. I've had a battery flagged on Ebay for quite some time already.

With as much as Graeme pushes the manuals, I'm beginning to think he's a tech writer...

Does anyone know if the BR2032 battery would work or does the VS-2480 require the CR only ?

I just checked to see what kind of battery my Timex wristwatch uses. It uses the CR2032, the same battery used in the VS-2480 ! That's good to know because these batteries are easy to find at watch repair shops and probably even at Walmart and such places.
Not worried about the battery replacement anymore.

Does anyone know if the battery being low effects the other functions of the VS-2480? I have been recording for the past few days, and when booting up I get the message that the Clock/Calendar battery is low, but I have just hit Enter, and continued on with my project. Today, I booted up, hit Enter on the battery message box, and my project came up. I decided to get rid of a few bad takes using Take Manager. When I deleted the first take I wanted to get rid off, it took longer than usual. When I selected the next one, it looked like it was working, but nothing happened. After about 15 minutes, I did a hard boot of the machine. Same battery message came up, but instead of loading the project I had been working on, it loaded a new project named "InitProject 001". When I pulled up my Project list, all my projects were listed, so I selected the one I'd been working on, and the Load Project box comes up, but no progress. After waiting about 10 minutes, I rebooted and the same thing happened. Does this have anything to do with the battery, or did my HD just S**t the bed?

If you can get out and about, it'd be worth the trip to just get a 2-pack of those CR 2032 watch batteries and change it. If nothing else, you eliminate the question about the battery condition affecting performance in this instance.

Thanks Uptildawn. I actually have a few 2032's here. I just didn't want to go through the whole deal of disconnecting everything and taking apart the 2480 to get to that battery. LOL Ya think they could have made a battery more accessible!

Just an update - I changed the battery, fired her back up. No battery low message, and I was able to set the date and time. Unfortunately, as before, I pull up my project list OK, but when I choose a project, the progress window comes up, but it never loads. Thankfully I have backups for most of my projects as well as for my VS8F-3 card plug ins, so I have started formatting the disk. I will let you know how that goes.
