Been working on mastering my two tracks -- so I could have WAV's to share ....

REAPER saves my files as RPP files ?? BUT Can only play them : if I reload them into Reaper ??

SO you have to RENDER the file ?? Who came up with that .. Even back with COOL EDIT '96 ~ ya got a WAV

OK back to the books /videos == hope I find the CHANNEL STRIP

The RPP file is simply a text file organizing the project. The actual audio is saved as to what ever format you have specified for the project (wav, mp3 at various bit depths and sample rates), You can use render to do various thing to the audio files - apply effects, comp takes etc etc.

If you just get things set up right it would end a bunch of your flailing around.

You have to think of saving like you would a Word document, and rendering like printing a Word document. Saving just stores it on your system, and you can't open a Word file with another program. Rendering is output, like printing - how do you want to present your file to the world. You have lots of options, as bear points out.

It's really not complicated, but there are a lot of options related to rendering that you need to think about: sample rate, stereo or mono, include metadata (things like the title and the artist, which will appear when played back on something like an iPod).

Read the manual C-Jo.

If it's too complicated, stop trying to transition into computer-based recording and stay with what you know, in all seriousness. It will be less stress, less mystery. You're happy with your set-up - stick with it if it works for you and if this is too difficult or too complicated. Life's too short.

Thanks guys -- just a new trick pony. Only moving over for a simple 2 track stereo mixdown -- was hoping there would be very little manual studying for that simple of a task . Guess Audacity - SoundForge are in a different class of Click & Play ,,,
Will watch more videos > before buggin' everyone

Thanks FLAT -- reading up now ....have all the settings in place > that part was easy ...just a few windows to view & select choices. My pass softwares all required. too. Just never had to "render" anything before = except video software. But you explained it well .. ;\)

Just want REAPER for a simple 2 track~ mix-down > from my VS /outboard gear setup ... maybe apply some volume to the final -- and then on to the next .

Finished 6 songs yesterday -- gettin' easier everyday.

Wish there was a shortcut key -- like my other softwares have offered .. You set the amount of db to add volume every time > to the stereo mix .... . click till you are happy. If I go to the FX window > there is one such (VOLUME ) selection ..will see the results ...

Will try to catch some advanced videos tonight ..

C Jo,

Let me know what videos you find most helpful. I am getting ready to stray into the Reaper realm myself soon.
