I have tried and tried to get good sounding effects on the VS2400CD . I would like to know how to get effects on certain tracks and adjust them. If I use reverb it is too much or pulls the gain way back. I'm not sure how to use the effects , Please help . Furman Watson

As a very general practice and something to check for your own settings (in case you might not already be familiar)...

Delay-based effects such as reverb and echo are normally placed parallel to the dry signal - that would be in Pre or Post positions and not Inserted inline with the dry signal.

Most often, I would say that a reverb would be placed in Post, so that the amount of reverb stays relative to the amount of dry signal, which means that when the dry signal is lowered and raised, the reverb follows to make it seem more natural.

Pre-position reverbs and delays can be quite effective, however, and shouldn't be overlooked.

Inserted reverbs tend to wash out the sound of the dry signal and/or make it more difficult to achieve the balance between the two signals. Although again, it's something to play with for special affect.

It's possible, based on your description, that you are using the reverb in the wrong position. You might check that first.

Hope this helps a bit. Please post more details, if it doesn't help.

I'm talking about the effects in the VS2400CD . If I want to add reverb on a vocal track , do I just put it on post ?

That's what I'm talking about also.
Pg 206 of your pdf manual (as graemest suggests) describes the process of using the internal effects. Pre and Post are described as "loop" effects settings in that manual. I learned of them as Pre and Post and Parallel, but it's the same thing - except that Pre is before your channel fader (allows the effect to sound regardless of fader position) and Post is after the fader (the fader controls the dry signal and reverb volume together).

Well, I gave a lengthy description of the three positions that reverbs can be placed in the circuit - Pre, Post and Insert.
Insert would be the one you'd generally avoid using because the effect on your dry sound is precisely that which you described in your first post.

You need to LOOP the reverb, not INSERT it.
I have a free quick start and manual for newbies/dummies that takes you step by step on how to use a single reverb in various amount with as many tracks as you want or need.
Just email me at Fcgjabq@aol.com

<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<Eamaple>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
LOOP EFFECTS or Send & Return Effects/ Patching an effect
Let’s add a Reverb to a signal recorded on TRACK 1. Click on EFFECT> EFFECT1> the EFFECT1 window opens, click [F1 PATCH] Find [P001 :Reverb2 ] click on it to highlight it and click on [F5 SELECT].

Now Effect1 is PATCHED with REVERB P002. Click [F6 EXIT] twice to back out of the EFFECT window. Now bring the AUX1 Fader and FX-RTN1 faders to UNITY/0db to send the reverb thru the mix bus. Looped reverb fills out the sound of tracks, IMO.

Now, play the recorded signal (vox or instrument etc) track 1 so we can hear it and press the CH-EDIT button for TRACK 1. The page changes to Dynamics/Compression and EQ Parameters with graphs. At the bottom of this screen in the “AUX SEND” area turn up the AUX1 knob until you hear the reverb. About -15db on the AUX1 knob and above will add REVERB you can hear. By default the AUX should already be ON/yellow and PST/blue. Each TRACK and INPUT has a CH-EDIT button and page and each CH-EDIT page has AUX1 thru AUX8 for your EFFECTS1 thru EFFECTS8.

If you had PATCHED in your REVERB P002 on EFFECT3 then we would be turning up the AUX3 knob to add reverb to the TRACKS or INPUTS. With the REVERB LOOPED, you can add as much of this reverb to each track 1-24 that you want by pressing the CH-EDIT button of the TRACK and turning up the AUX knobs.
<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

This is how it works on my VS2480, it should be similar on your VS.
I hope this helps.
Frank

Does anyone know in reference to the Metronome on the VS2480cd if there is a pre-click count in before you start recording?

First and foremost my sincere apologies to all of you. I have had to dump my sessions on my 2400 due to family illness, this is the first chance I have had this year 2016 . Without going into detail My daughter has type one diabetes and things got very scary at one point, i haven't been able to muster enough concentration to lend myself to recreational interests, and the likes. But I would like to thank you all for your advice and Imputs in trying to help me.whilst I am still in the same situation as when I started this thread,I shall try to devote some time in the weeks ahead to trying the solutions you have suggested.many thanks Alan
