Hi there, I recently purchased a VS-840 in the hopes of doing a flash card upgrade, and when I got it home found out the firmware was only at 1.01. There was a comment from another thread, which I can't find now, where someone bricked their 840 going from 1.01 via zip, and had to use the midi upgrade to recover it. So is there a risk of bricking my machine by doing that from 1.01 as I've only seen posts of people successfully upgrading from 1.02 firmware via zip. Should I buy a midi adapter to do it instead? I'd only be using it for this one time however, so it seems like a waste.
I also had a question about getting the firmware file onto the Zip disk, specifically that I don't have a Zip drive on my PC, so again I'd have to go buy one just for this one time. Could I just take out the Zip drive from the 840 and install it into my PC just to write the file, and put it back in the 840 for the firmware upgrade? I think it should work if it's a standard IDE drive, but I see people here talking about getting a separate Zip drive for their PC to do so. Is there a reason for that?
