Can you take music from a CD player and record it onto a stereo track on the VS840? The manual doesnt provide any info and I would think you should be able to. I tried taking RCA cables from the out of the CD player and pluged into the VS840. The music came through at an excessive high level but would not let me adjust the volume nor record. Any thought? Thanks

What inputs/channels are you hooking up the CD player to? I would use one of the paired tracks 5/6 or 7/8.

You should be able to adjust the input signal level via the input gain knobs. Is your routing and panning correct?

Hi Wish,

Actually I think there is only one place on the back that can accept an input via RCA cables. When you select EZrouting, what input do you select? Thanks for your repsonse

You are correct on the rca inputs....it's been awhile since I have had an 840...I just looked at a picture of the back of the machine.

The RCAs come in on the channels 3 and 4 inputs, so you need to use the CD bus for your record tracks. Pan channel 3 100% left and channel 4 100% right.

I would route the 3 and 4 inputs to a stereo pair - 5/6 or 7/8. Make sure whichever tracks you use are set to the CD bus.

Then test out your levels and adjust the input gain as needed.

You should be able to then play the cd and hit record/play on the 840.

It's most likely a routing problem.

Hi Wish, with your help I figured it out! I tried a few different settings from your advice and it works great! However, I dont know where the CD bus settings are but thats ok. The only thing I cant do is adjust the imput volume. Evidently the signal is just standard and I tried adjusting the master knob, input sens knob and the track 1 slider but it doesnt effect the volume when your recording from the CD to a stereo track. I wouldve given up trying without your help especially since I called Roland initially and the guy said he didnt think it could be done on the unit which didnt make sense to me cause it should be a pretty basic function. But he didnt have the manual and referred me to VS Planet. If you have any other thoughts let me know but thanks for helping me accomplish what I wanted to
