I'm surprised no one else has commented.
Being 63, I was 11 when my life changed over night on Feb 9 1964.
through the years I learned there were actually 5 beatles (6 if you count Epstein). They might still have made it big without Martin but the music would hardly have been the same. I mean, with Decca turning them down...undoubtedly the biggest mistake in the history of the music industry. Only Martin saw something in them. We have him to thank for their music output, just as much as the boys for coming up with it.
The reasons for Martin's success go much further than the fab four, but it was the magical music his mind created from their ideas that will last forever. My life would not be what it is if not for the beatles, with George at the helm. I only wish there had been more. Possibly not past Abbey Road but more earlier material. Their talent for coming up with the magic over and over and over again...it seemed like they tapped into a well of endless hits. Who else? No one. No one came anywhere close and still have not. All other bands of the time envied them...with respect of course. All the girls wanted them. All the boys wanted to be them. Why couldn't other bands keep up? The other bands would have a hit now and then but the ability to come up with catch tunes as often and as easily as the boys did, surely had many heads scratching. What was the formula? Why has it not been repeated?
Life in the world will never ever be the same as it was for this young teenager in the mid 60's.
Sorry, I know this was to be about George and I got carried away. But hey...don't get me started..
