VS840EX - SD cards need to initialize every time

Hello! Many thanks to this great forum for the help in upgrading my 840EX. I bought it used in good condition, and was able to update the firmware to 2.05 via midi no problems so I could install an SD card reader in place of the zip drive. Everything seems to function normally (I'm still learning) with the exception of the machine prompting me to initialize the card at every boot up. Once I do that I can record and edit just fine, but even after shift+shut and store it still prompts me to initialize the card again.
Could it be that the particular card isn't compatible? I have 3 that I have tried (2x2gb and 1x128mb - though none are on the confirmed working list in the sticky thread) with the same result. Any other ideas to try? Please forgive me if I am missing something obvious!

Have you happened to read this thread about different sd card adapters?:

Although it's possible that the cards you are using are not compatible - since you don't mention the brands and models, it's impossible to make any sort of judgment call there - I think it's more likely that the adapter could be the cause of the VS complaint about initialization.
Also, consider changing to a CF (compact Flash) adapter instead of SD. I've heard (through comments in threads here) that the CF adapters do not suffer from this problem..... although I don't recall the reasons, nor what specific threads I've read about them at the moment..... possibly even in the one link I've provided here..

UTD - thank you for that link! I had searched around, but missed that one (and it looks the be the one I need)
This is the adapter I bought: ebay - IDE to SD Secure Digital Flash Memory Adapter
The cards I used were just what I had around, figured I should check them before I spent the money on new. Both 2gb cards are micro in an adapter -- one is a Samsung and the other a LG. The 128mb card is a Canon.
Lots of great information and things to try in that thread, will go through and report back, but going to CF is a great suggestion and will be my next step if I can't get what I have working. Thank you!

If you'll notice in that thread, Jack seems to have done the most checking between types of SD cards. Maybe you should send him a PM and ask for some suggestions about your card. I can
t tell from the photo you supplied here and I don't have any personal knowledge/experience with the cards that don't work, as Jack has had. PM Jack here: http://www.vsplanet.com/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php?ubb=sendprivate&User=19172

From that thread it appears that the issue is with the new chip that is on the cards. The image linked above is from the ebay auction and although it shows 2 chips, the one I was sent has just the newer problem chip. I have message them about an exchange so hopefully that will work out. Will update!

The seller offered me a refund so I returned it and have just purchased a CF adapter that was listed as working in the megathread. Fingers crossed!!

Oh, thanks! I have no functional preference, just had more SD cards around the house and they seem more available these days. Good to know there are options!
Thanks so much again for linking me to the other thread. Saved a ton of time in troubleshooting.
