Hi everyone! I sometimes find here some of the questions on the application of SSD hard disks, their capacity, reliability, manufacturers... Exactly 1.5 years ago I mounted in a one of the 2400 the SSD Intel 330 series 120 Gb via usual IDE-SATA interface. And about six months ago, I used the same HDD to another 2400. In addition to the regular studio work, I recorded a few big live concerts during that time. And usually I do always a lot of edits in the pre-work with tracks before mix. During all this time there was no failure associated with the use of this SSD's. In addition, all the equipment, including 2400's, is working around the clock and almost never turns off. But that is only my experience, and perhaps it will seem to someone useful. Best regards, Anthony

Hi

Did you find that the loading times shortened?

Hi, unfortunately, the loading times depends on the performance of hardware and software, it almost does not change when you install a faster HDD.
But the process of copying songs or large projects to another HDD partition is much faster!

Hi Anthony, I recently purchased a Intel 520 with a IDE-SATA interface and my VS2480 refused to read the drive properly. It hangs on the formatting page. Would you have any idea if it's the convertor or the drive that is the problem? Thanks

Hi Bran, if you see on the VS display (or VGA monitor) the message "Not found any drives", in this case, is more likely to have a problem with the IDE-SATA interface. I was buying several adapters, and in fact, only one of them not worked.
But in your case, it seems, the problem of compatibility of the HDD controller or its firmware version (although most the 330 and 520 series used the same controller SandForce CF-2281). When I was looking SSD for 2400, I tried to connect drives of various brands - it was 4 or 5 HDD, and only 330 series came up and had no problems.
Yes, the VS system had seen some discs and formatting, but when turned off and turned on again, the system returns to the formatting as in your case.
Also, these symptoms will occur if your disk is larger than the capacity of 120 GB.

P.S. To test your interface, connect the ordinary mechanical SATA hard drive 120 GB or less.

Hey Anthony, sorry it took me so long to reply. I hadn't had time to test the unit with the various controllers that I bought on eBay until now. You are right, there was a problem with the first controller I bought. And I test another 3 more that worked with a mechanical 500Gb sata 2.5" that came out of my MacBook Pro. This is great as I don't have to deal with the old 3.5" harddisk noise and also safely disengage the caddy fan.

Hi Anthony, last year I bought VS 2480. It is too laud. I have cut the fan in the caddy. There was no problem and replaced the fan on backside with noiseless fan.
Now I want to replace harddisc noise with SSD. I bought SSD Intel 330 series 120 GB.
I have tried 8 various IDE-SATA interfaces. It doesn´t work. "Not found any drives"
Which converter have you installed?
I hope you can help. Thanks. Sigi

My iMac seams to disagree with you, 2011 2.7I5 is way faster now with a 480g OWC SS drive than with the original 1T, boot time shorter by 1 min, now boots from off to a usable web page in 22 sec.

Make sure it actually said "No hard drive found.
When the VS finds a hard drive it usually will show a message that says "No formatted drive found, initialize?", which means it found your hard drive but it needs formatting so press ENTER to answer YES and then select the rest of the parameters for the formatting.
