Anybody step back? I may. I'm not having too much trouble getting around the 2480 but the 1680 is so well designed that I may consider it! Any comments?

There should be some form of EXPORT function in the 2480 to allow you to finagle a 1680 formatted SONG out of a 2480 project.

In fact, there's this newfangled revolutionary thing for computers called a pdf manual and Roland actually makes one for the 2480!! Somewhere's around pages 106-109 in the 2480 Reference manual there's something about exporting to a 1680...... maybe see if you can talk Roland into selling you their secret download location and see if it helps. \:\)

I have a 2480 and an 1880, and I end up doing most of my recording with the 1880 as it is much smaller and easier to move around. The 2480 is just too large in many cases. However the 2480 is very useful for importing projects into the 1880 (import wavs into the 2480, then export that song in 1680 format to the 1880). I really like them both, but have more of the learning curve conquered on the 1880. The 2480 is very useful if more than 2 mics are needed at once.

Hi MKB,

I see what you mean. With my VS-1824 I can connect 8 XLR mics but only 2 can have phantom power. For the inputs 3 up to 8 I use selfmade TRS-XLR adapter cables.

Yes I understand the problem.
I progressed from an 880 to a 1824, which I found was a wonderful upgrade. Then thought a 2000 was the next step. A mistake! I never got on with it at all, and though I tried for 6 months or so, and eventually went back, with a huge sigh of relief, to using the 1824.
I prefer to work without having to think too much about the actual recording side, and I never got there with the 2000. Sounds like this is what you're finding

The larger machines have the sound but they have a clumsy, poorly thought out design. A VS 1680/1880 is like a speed boat while the large machines are like cruiseships with swimming pools and buffets. I prize the 24 tracks for the sounds and features but I would'nt choose them as a very good recorder to work with.
