If you go backwards through her work, IMO, the live at the Royal Albert Hall is great....she came to Nashville to make this--and apparently pose in the hipster douche record shop....

Question thou Pops: What is the Genre of her work? I live it, but who is the intended audience? It's not a Rap, it's not a Pop, it's not Jazz or Blues, it's not corntree. Is it the 'old musician genre'?
As far as selling or attracting and audience it has numerous flaws: It's tasteful, it's original, it has very good production. She needs to find another way to make a living. This won't cut it in the world!

By the way Joanne Conner really phoned in her album GEEEZUS! Let's just have the band throw down a blues beat and then she can just throw out a handful of lyrics. Walllah .... a new album.

Who is the intended audience for anyone's music? Particularly an independent artist? Intended audiences and "genres" are the construction of labels and their marketing depts.
What genre is Joss Stone? Paul Carrack? Did you hear Paul Rogers's last record of Memphis soul tunes? Marc Broussard? What's this local artist's "genre"?
I don't expect she has much of audience beyond her following in her home Britain, where mid century soul music has always had a large following. But, you know....I hope I'm wrong about that.

Just downloaded a Paul Carrack and Shannon LaBrie. Never heard of either, but dang they sound good. Oh that's right, that's why I haven't heard of them.
Music: Proof that God has a very very dry sense of humor.

Ace (How Long) The only Sqeeze song most people know (Tempted) Mike&the Mechanics (Living Years)
...you know why I (think I) feel such kindred with Carrack? He came into his musical own later in life. His early work was mediocre. Then he tried to bend to sort of "80s new wave"....only to find his (artistic) voice in the 90s as he got more involved in the writing of Mechanics and branched out solo (again)....he hid stride in mid life. Where most pop musicians hit it at 24.....and are done by midlife....his arc was more like many musicians.
You want Blue Views (1996?). Desert island record for me. And frankly--if you can listen to that and not hear that I used it as a sonic template for years....those bass and guitar and organ tones....anyway....after that, he's done a majority of the playing himself in his home studio....which means, less powerful work. Always. Even with someone as talented as Paul.
Bless Elton and Clapton and the EaglesCo who kept him making music all these years when his own work wouldn't pay the bills.

Guess he's done with his James Taylor acoustic era?
I'll have to check it out.
I've been listening to the New Minus the Bear.. It officially comes out this week so I'll get the CD in to hear. Their last few were so brickwalled that it made the albums a nightmare to listen to.
