Charles Stephen was an amazing man, the gentlest force of nature, the most loquacious person with the most outrageous command of the English language that you could ever meet.
He became the minister at the Unitarian Church that my parents attended when I was a mere eight years old. Throughout his life he inspired, guided, and married all of us… that is to say, he performed the marriage ceremony for my sisters and their first spouses, Linda and I, and my parent's second marriage to each other.
He was an avid reader, having a radio show on our local public radio station about books that he'd read. He was an avid writer, writing some of the most inspiring services that you could ever hear.
Charles passed away several days ago, and we attended his funeral this afternoon. The church was packed with families, friends, and well wishers. Several of his writings were read by children and grandchildren. His love of classical music was reflected in the music played.
Goodbye, Charles. You've been present, and presided, at just about every major life event I've ever had. I will indeed mourn you, but you have always reminded us that this is a part of life.
I'm a much better man for having known you. Would that I could live up to the example that you set for all of us.

'Tis fortunate for so many that there are some people who rise to this quality. Passing is part of life but his legacy lives.
Condolences to all.
PS, I was a member of the Unitarian Church in the mid 1950’s. Started in the LRY, liberal religious youth.
