Just wondering if any of you went through giving advice to your daughters about hand strengthening. Brooke is a wee lass. I am giving her a pretty easy to play Alvarez to get her going and am hoping she doesn't get frustrated with plaing chords, etc., because her hand strength isn't there.

Not worried about her not learning to play as she reads music very well, kick ass clarinet player and self taught and Good on piano.

I've never heard of anyone having hand strength issues except for barre chords (I can still wear MYSELF out playing all barre chords on my acoustic for several songs).....so, start with open chords. thinner strings take less grip strength and encourage lighter playing....so, have it set up for light strings. And for goodness sake have it SET UP for her....lower action....on an acoustic where the strings WILL be thicker....

Beginners usually have issues with fingertip pain....and women with nails....has been my experience. Cut the nails....and "it will pass--promise".

Does she drink beer? Yes....you can do what Popmann says. Great advice, or just drink a bunch of beer and bang on those out of tune, rusty strings.

She already gave up drinking beer. The guitar is nice and plays well. I take good care of my stuff.
