Hi all...I have a VS2480 DVD archive of a live show (2 track) but no longer have a 2480 or any means to retrieve the file from the disc. Is there a way for me to get the wav files from the DVD? I tried following the threads on this, but none seemed to answer the question when the user doesn't have the machine to play it on...I have a MAC. Many thanks in advance!

Agree with Joe don't know about Mac? The VS wave Export at the top of the forum is what you need.

I use Bear's application on a Mac running XP via VirtualBox.

Install the REAPER.dll and you can open the Song files directly once they've been ripped.

Where in western NY? I grew up in Canandaigua...

I've just realized after going through all of this that I didn't finalize the DVD RW the files are stored on when I archived. I can see there is data on the disc, but the windows machine I'm using says it's an empty disc.
Is there anyone out there who would be willing to help me with this? I could mail the DVD and whatever you think an appropriate fee would be to have someone finalize and extract the wav files for me.
If anyone wants to help, my cell is 585 355 8237 and my name is Jan-Mikael Erakare. My recording studio's website is http://www.erakare.com and you can find me on FB under my name or under Erakare Studios, if you're concerned about my legitimacy.
I'm kicking myself for not having the understanding of the unit when I archived this gig!!
Cheers in advance..

Windows will NOT recognize what's on the disc, finalized or not. Your disc is possibly finalized by the Roland already.
On earlier VS models, it seems to me that the VS automatically finalizes backup discs as part of the burning process, unlike audio CDs which can be written one track at a time, with the finalization process left up to the user.

Again - windows can not do anything useful with the disc....... it can show it being empty, yet it could be finalized by the VS. If you see evidence that information has been burned to it when you look at the disc surface, then at least you know it is not empty, right?

The only way to get tracks off the disc is by way of one of the utilities already discussed. These utilities have windows versions, but not mac versions........ that is unless the Reaper .dll works in both win and mac versions of it's daw.

So exactly what are you looking to do?
Since you say it's 2 track have you already mixed it down from multitrack?
If it's a 2 track backup disc what format do you want it in? CDR so you can play it on any system.
Do you want it mixed EQ'ed etc.?
I could probably help you if I knew exactly what it is you want done.

I think Up is right about the VS finalizing burns.

The REAPER.dll will not work directly on Mac, but works fine on Mac under XP run in the VirtualBox VM. It will probably work using BootCamp or Parallels and your favorite version of Windows as well.

Pete...thanks for offering to assist me! I archived a 2 track master to a DVD. All I need to do is to get the wav file (or files...I can't remeber if I split the whole show up into individual tracks before I archived it or not) so I can remaster it/them in my studio. I could mail the disc or perhaps dropbox it...whatever is easiest for you...
My phone is (585) 355 8237 if it's easier to buzz...
Cheers,
Jan-Mikael

Yup, already burned , wav. files heading your way, mailed them this afternoon.

Because of the length of the original file I had to divide them into 3 cd's. The 2480 won't let you burn wav. files to DVD.

It's actually two packages, 3 day mail so you should get them at least by Thursday.
