Ok, trying to help a fellow planateer.
He sent me a backup disc I loaded it on to my 2480 no problem. He no longer has a 2480 and would like wav. files back.

Ok, it's a 2 track recorded in MTP 44.1K the problem is it's 1 hour and 38 minutes long which equals 1.2 gigs. The 2480 won't let me burn wav. files to a DVD and when I put a cd in there it says not enough memory on the cd.

Ok so I have to break these tracks up into smaller projects to able to burn wav. files. How would you go about breaking it up?
I have the backup disc so if I screw up I'm not fucked.

What would you use, region move, or erase part of it then burn that then do the other parts of the track in the same way.

Uncharted territory for me.

OR.......... if you don't have a convenient way to get them onto the pc, or don't have VSWE.....

I'd say to find logical break points - I assume it's not continuous music/dialog with absolutely no break points - and divide it up into half or thirds. 1.2GB divided by 3 is only 334MB or so, divided by 2 is still under the standard CD-R limit of 650-700MB at only 501MB.

Use whatever equivalent you have to track move, if you want to take each segment off the end of the long file - make it so that the moved segment begins at zero on the timeline.

Or you can use track copy (or the 2480 equivalent) to copy the entire stereo region over to one or two other track pairs. Then use track cut (or equivalent) to hack off the beginning sections up to the point you want the track pair to begin at - at zero. Cut will automatically move everything forward that comes after the cut point.

Pretty straightforward...... you may have already got something working by now.

Thanks uptildawn.
Yea, if you look at the original post everyone suggested VSwaveexport to him.
Thanks for the math, yes divide it up into 3 segments and go from there!
Track move and track copy both seem like possibilities.

I've recorded long segments of audio but I just use the mastering room and mix down with CDR on.

I got used to using the track edit functions extensively on the 1680, so it just seems second nature to me to start chopping up those long recordings. I used to somehow juggle 16 tracks of 90-minute concert recordings around in a way to back them up to multiple single CD backups, without relying on the waffly multi-disc backups (they bit me more than once with multi-discs that I couldn't recover later).

In case anyone is interested I got it done with the help of Hong Kong Phooey over at the bar and grill.
The key was using project split, region erase and region cut.

As seen here:
