Welcome, not really my department but I think getting the terminology correct will go a long way toward improving Your understanding of What is going on and what You are trying to achieve. The message suggests Your Hard Disk is not formatted for use in the 2480. If it is a newly fitted blank drive, that message would appear normally. Then Formatting the drive would be recommended, however if the drive has been used with this machine and You have recorded projects that You want to keep, then that message is not normal and I would advise You to check that it is connected properly.

Ive done numerous projects on the unit but learned that I never defrayed or did well with maintenance. Only 3 partitions have data on them and after auto mixing a project last night the unit just freaked out. I'm just lost right now !! I can't get to any partitions it just shows the SCS10 drive on the format drive page ?

2480 version 2.01 trying to load new drivers and screen is stuck on opening VS Page. CD Driver light is flashing with new updates on CD

Do you mean you were trying to update the OS? Where did you get the update CD from?

It seems at this point the unit can't recognize (at the very least) the Table of Contents (TOC) on your hard drive (or the whole thing is fried) and it wants to format it.

Have you kept all of your hard work backed up each session?

You have 2 choices, either move forward with formatting the drive (you'll lose everything on it and have to reinstall everything from your data cd/dvds) or buy another hard drive in the meantime until you can find someone who can try to hook it up to a PC and possibly retrieve your files with VSWE.

It appears that the unit will only prompt me to the SCS10 CD-RW drive. Even that formatting fails. I cant scroll or page to anything else !! So frustrated.
Any hard reboot push button combinations??
I really appreciate your time.

I wonder if just the CD drive is messed up even tho it lights and spins??

On the start up it says CD OK but the IDE says NG and the Drive says -0-

Can we draw a conclusion from this information??

Could be the HD has gone bad?
Force initialize it and see what happens, hopefully you have everything backed up cause you will lose everything.

How were you trying to update your OS? I've always just used a cd to do it. It can be done using midi however.

Somewhere I have instructions on how to do it if you get that far. Get your hard drive issues sorted first.

Keep asking questions, we will try to help!

Pete

Man, that sounds ungood. If that were mine I would pull that drive and put a fresh one in there for a start. Then You can sort the OS, get that all working then try the old drive again.

Do not format Your drive unless You want to delete everything on there. Check the Hard Disk is connected properly. It seems like the 2480 cannot see a Hard Drive. It only sees the CD Drive.

There are three models I know of, the first one is called 2480HD, it has a Hard Disk Caddy on the front, this was later replaced by the 2480CD. That one has a CD Drive on the front where the Hard Disk Caddy used to be, third is called 2480DVD, that has replaced the CD with a DVD Drive. The last two models have thier HDD's buried deep inside the main body of the 2480 and are kind of a mission to access unfortunately. There are You Tube vids of how to open Her up.

Sounds like you have a VS-2480CD unit.

Eject the cd burner and leave the tray open, the unit will boot and ignore the burner completely then (as it can't find it with the tray door open.)

Sounds like you need to buy and install a replacement hard drive.

I tried the CD open tray boot up and get the same result. The new hard drive is expected to be delivered tomorrow. I strongly believe it has been resolved to being a hard drive issue. The seller also set it up for Master control for me.
Stay Tune, Jae

You have to set the new hard drive's jumper to master, there should be a diagram (picture) on the drive showing which pins are the master.
New drives don't always come with jumpers so you may have to take the one off the old drive.

I have installed the new drive and in the formatting process now!! Stay Tune. Also, I opened the old drive and it was stuck in position on the inner circumference of the disk.

Cool, good luck!
Depending on the size of the drive it may take 8 to 12 hours to format.

Classic hard drive crash. If the platters in the unit are unharmed data may be retrievable.

New Drive installed and my dear VS2480 is alive and well !!! I opened the bad drive and it was stuck on the inner circumference of the disk with a groove scratched in.
Thanks to all of you who supported me through this process.
Overjoyed with Gratitude !! I will be backing up and formatting drives with better maintenance care.
