I am another to have the popping and crackling appear on my VS-2480HD. It started with ch/tracks 23-24 but has spread to most ch/tracks and inputs at this point. I get the noise even when not in record mode, just monitoring an input signal.
Digging through past discussions on this forum, it looks like it has been narrowed down to the main board (mother board).
I am planning on replacing it shortly and hopefully I'll be back to clean audio.
Anyone with insight on this, it would be much appreciated!

Mike

I swapped out the main board on my VS-2480 today and all my popping and crackling problems have gone away!
I'm excited to get back to recording instead of troubleshooting.

I'm curious where you found a main board at?

Very cool! Mike, how difficult was it to swap the motherboard?

Luckily the main board is easily exposed by pulling the bottom off the unit. Lots of screws but pretty simple to do.

I've found that, when using the compressor with the attack at zero, a crackling sound is introduced. Anyone know what is up with that?

typically, an attack of zero can produce that crackle on low frequencies in particular. Kick and bass often are troublesome in this respect. Try setting the attack just slightly higher than zero and the crackle should stop.

That would be distortion from improper gain staging. Yes, watch your levels and keep them below the clipping range.
My problem was about bad hardware that has become an issue with some VS DAWs.
