Hi All,
There was a VS-2480HD here in the Washington DC metro area on craigslist. It was for sale for $400 or best offer. He sold it to me for $340.00 with scsi cd drive and monitor.
Devaluation / Value is in the eye of the beholder.

I am now the proud owner of 2 VS2480s and a VS2000. Once I had two VS2000s and a vs1880. THen I lucked up on a vs2480. I recently sold a vs2000 to a friend after modding it with an SSD.

Now I am going to modify this VS2480 with an SSD. The goal is more tracks at a higher bit rate. I am no longer a fan of RDAC (the roland compression). I forgot to ask if the VS2480 has vs8f2 cards in it. We'll see. I will make some more videos about the unit , describing how to use two together and how to convert hdd to ssd.
Now I have to find more SSD and the adapter.

Cheers,
Ian

Wow, that's quite a bargain if it's in decent shape!

Yes sir,
Just finished checking it out.
All the faders work. One is is sluggish. I plan to open it and see what's going on. It stops just shy of the 0 db line.
It had a lot of dust and dust bunnies in the fan and fader areas. The surface it rather clean. Though on one spot someone placed something hot on its surface and left a burn mark. It is not in a critical area though.
The inputs work and it has two VS8f2 cards in it. Next I will take out the 30 gig hd that's in it. Replace with 128g samsung ssd.
It is on version 2.50
Cheers,
Ian

Great score. I haven't been quite so lucky, but I now have two 2480s (one 'full-fat' with MB-24 and VE-7000 and the other kept standard as a back-up).

As you're further along with the SSD thing than me, a question: have you thought about experimenting with either deleting the fan or making it switchable?

I'm wondering if the HDD->SSD conversion drops the power consumption enough to make it possible to take out the fan. Here in my workshop-cum-studio in England, the ambient temp is rarely above 25C (77F).

Hi All,
I am putting the finishing touches on a video of the second unit. I had an adapter and a SSD card that was meant for something else. So I have placed it in the VS2480 and it is working fine. It was a much faster set up since I did not choose surface scan and I selected the quick format.
I did in fact disconnect the fan. The fan in this newer unit was loud. I am going to try it fanless for two months and share my findings.
Video coming soon. https://youtu.be/QLgxq-T5TaE
Cheers,
IAn

Thanks Ian, as it's getting to Winter here, I think I'll do the same on the fan.
