Thank you for this.

Do you get audio in/out through the V-Fire/2480?

One thing: The audio is very faint-- any chance you could boost it a bit?

Thanks,

DK

I just bought a V-Fire unit and Roland R-Buss cables. I still need the mac and Logic pro, I'm really hoping this will all work. I've been trying to sync Toontracks EZDrummer from my MacBook air to the VS with no luck. This V-Fire,Mac, Logic would be a miracle!

Thank you! I got the V-Fire up and running in Yosemite on my mid-2009 MacBook Pro without going through any integrity protection disabled (guess Yosemite doesn't have that). Time to make more RBUS cables.

That is good news, Bran.

Tell me-- are you getting audio in and out thru the V-Fire and VS?

I've been holding off on updating my machine because of the post OSX 10.4.11/V-Fire incompatibilty.

Would you be so kind as to list the drivers/steps required to make this work?

Thanks for all of the V-Fire users here.

Hi DK, I followed Alvaro's youtube video and things worked exactly as he has described. I then went ahead with installation on another Mac with Sierra. No problems. However I was rather curious about the V-Fire Control as nothing seem to change when I alter the sampling rate/clock. It seems like the driver was doing nothing. I went on to uninstall it and a "driver not found' came up instead... I then went ahead to delete the app using Cleanapp.

I went on to delete Presonus Universal Control as well and the V-Fire inputs/outputs stop appearing. They are shown as Presonus FireStudio under "Audio MIDI Setup" in "Utilities". I re-enabled integrity protection "csrutil enable" as Alvaro has recommended to disable it previously for these installations in El Capitan. Reinstalled Universal Control, rebooted, connect V-Fire and FireStudio showed up automatically. I don't have to open "Universal Control" under "Applications" for it to work, other than to adjust the latency mode which shows up as options "Low Latency", "Normal", "Safe Mode 1" and "Safe Mode 2". I think these do take effect but I haven't got round to testing them without my ears. They sound darn good already. Upon FireStudio showing up in Audio MIDI Setup, the Sync light will blink Red and Blue. All you have to do is to switch the frequency once for the blink to stop in Blue. The RBUS1 and RBUS2 light does not come on and it is not a problem.

So in effect, I think Universal Control 1.7.4.5 is all you need.
https://www.presonus.com/support/downloads/FireStudio-Lightpipe

V-Fader does work as well, when I downloaded from Roland website the Surface Control package. It shows up as a SI24 and I just pick this as the Surface Control in Logic.

You will need to select Master Clock as R-BUS1 under "Project parameter" in VS2480 Utility, and then route the necessary outputs to R-BUS "Output Assign". Be sure to open the same sampling frequency project in Logic or you will hear either a pitched up or down version than what you have in your VS2480 Project.

I think that is all to it.

I recently just sold my Fireface 800 so I'm glad the VS2480 and V-Fire can act as an interface for now until I buy another. Probably the Discrete 4... I am curious if the VS2480 will sound better with the Antelope word clock. The analog outs from VS2480 definitely sound warmer than the Built-In output of my MacBook Pro, a very slight mid-scoop but definitely noticeable during AB test.

Thanks Alvaro for starting the thread and for sharing.

Audio midi setup names my V-Fire "Presonus 1394". What is that?

1394 is a firewire designation...... a firewire port is a 1394 port...

Thanks, I'll give Alvaro's video another try. He never answered me as to the routing of audio through the VS and V-Fire. As Youtube muted his video due to copyright infringement, it's not really discernible whether or not the audio routes properly.

My audio midi setup window does not show any R-BUS inputs. The V-Fire is showing a constant blue light and red RB1. Audio devices shows Presonus 1394 16 in/ 16 out.
Clock source is Word Clock.
Format 44100.0Hz. 8ch-32bit.
I keep trying to get this to look like Alvaro's video but get stuck here.

If your V-fire shows up as Presonus FireStudio in the "Audio Devices" window of "Audio Midi Setup" program, you should get all 16 in and 16 out in whatever DAW you are using. It is just choosing the FireStudio interface to use for that DAW. For a less complicated setup, use FireStudio as Inputs but the Mac's built-in output as Outputs. (I can try and talk you thru routing the signal back to the VS for another setup. It took quite a bit of trial and error and learning the VS routing on my side as well.)

As for routing. you can choose to go into "Direct Out" mode on the EZ Routing page on the VS (somewhere in the top right hand corner, it should light up as orange). On the same panel, connect Tracks 1/2, 3/4, etc... 15/16 direct to the RBUS 1 Outputs 1/2 ...7/8, then RBUS 2 1/2...7/8. I choose PreFader (turns to red) right under the Direct out orange button.

Now to enable the signal to go thru the RBUS to the DAW. Go to IN 1-16 above the Master Fader and put all faders to zero by pressing the CLEAR button and CH EDIT button above each channel fader. Next... select TR 1-16 and also set all Faders to zero by pressing CLEAR and the CH EDIT button. Following this enable record on all 16 channels by either clicking the TRACK STATUS till it blinks red or using a shortcut (hold on to the REC button and press each TRACK STATUS)

You should now have 16 Channels getting thru to your DAW!!!

NOW... for sending the output of your DAW to your VS.
I think the default will be V-FIRE RBUS 1/2 to Input Mixer 17/18. (Check this in your EZ routing panel)
Go to IN 17-24 and TR 17-24 and zero the faders 17/18 like before. Then go to EZ routing and connect ANALOG MULTI OUTPUT 7/8 to MON. You should now have audio going to the VS outputs. Go to Page 2/3 of Home Screen and select IN F/P to link channels 17/18 and also pan them left right.
If you select FireStudio as outputs in your OSX System Preference, you should have anything playing in OSX routing to this channel as well.

As a disclaimer, I am very new in this VS2480 with OSX and hence what I found out is what I have meddled with the past week. I do not know if this is the most efficient way or the best method but it works for me. I hope I do not confuse you even further with this.

Alvaro did a great job in getting this started. He also has another youtube that shows you how to use the VS in V.FADER mode as a control surface using the SI-24 model.

All the best!

Hello everybody.
I use roland vs 2480 as a sound card with v-fire via reaper and cubase.
and also as a control surface. it works perfectly.
the install is very simple. just put the driver in the daw (I use the vs2480 and not the si24).
then in the daw just choose presonus v-fire.
and set in option (reaper) ch 1 to 8 and again ch 1 to 8 for both cables Rbus.
for cubase in option choose input 16 tracks.

then in roland vs 2480 set the clock as master.
where Wclock if you have an external converter.

to record live in the daw simply open the console input tracks 1 to 16 of the Roland, then snap the buttons out (right aux) 1 for 1, 2 for 2, 3 for 3. and up to 8 for rbus 1. and for the rbus 2, it is necessary to do the same with the exit aux to (to the left of the buttons). set these sliders to 0db.
then put all the sliders (roland), volume to 0 and the pan in the center.
then, in the daw, activate the rec button.
and record ..

if some of you do not understand my explanations, maybe I can try to send you pictures
good luck ,
Luco

Hey Luco, what platform and OS are you on for the V-Fire? OSX Sierra doesn't allow me to select the clocking. It's default to V-Fire and the option is not given in Audio Midi Setup and Universal Control.

I've been reading up on word clocks and seems that the recommendation is to select clock master on the device performing AD conversion, which in this case is the VS.

You can turn on "Direct Out" mode and route Input 1-8, 9-16 to RBUS 1-8, 9-16. This way you will see corresponding channels 1-16 on your DAW.

hello everyone,

just a quick update on the Vfire install, disabling SIP is not necessary. I also made a new video of how to use the unit as a control surface for Logic in case someone needs it.

Cheers.

Hi Alvaro, can you confirm if V-Fire Control actually does anything?
I can't change the clocking source. Not from Presonus Universal Control either.

Damn! I had to buy a new used iMac -El Capitan 10.11.5. I hope the Presonus universal control is all I need because the driver is no longer available from Presonus.

New to the forum, spent the last two days working with a VS-2480 and V-Fire. Followed some of the movie that was posted on YouTube by one of your members, which was very helpful. Took a lot of hair pulling and a couple of adult beverages but I now have 8 tracks going into my Mac 10.6.8 and my other Mac with El Capitan. Also, have both computers synced with Live 8 as slave. Thank you Alvaro. Only have one cable at the moment, thus only 8 tracks.

Searched the world over for a couple days. You can get the driver for V-Fire at http://www.opendrivers.com/download/driver-165309.html

Do not go to the Presonus link, go to the lower section of the page there is a link to a backup server for V-Fire_installer_macosx_105dzip

Works for me with Logic 8 on Mac 10.6.8 and El Capitan

Thanks so much for this. Bought the V-Fire when it came out and it's basically been a useless and expensive door stop ever since! It now works great with Reaper and my two VSR880's, yay!

Hey,

So is that nobody has tried it on Mac OSX High Sierra? Or is it confirmed not to work on High Sierra?

A bit tricky to find info on this. \:\/
