Is this an internal 3.5" hard drive?
I have no real solutions but this is what I have encountered before. I had similar experiences with my VS2480HD when I was experimenting with the conversion to SATA 2.5" laptop hard drive and SSD. Turn out 1) the IDE to SATA I was using was either incompatible, or 2) the SSD I was using was incompatible.
So there might be a possibility that the IDE board is faulty?
Did you make sure the new IDE drive you are trying to put in is on MASTER SELECT?
