Distrust. Misinformation.
Local songwriter thinks net neutrality is what allows pirate sites to operate and has killed his royalties.
Another person, said "Whatever Google's for, I'm against.". And mind you-that logic is usually solid by my book, except they weren't ALONE or in a minority in support of neutrality. Evil clocks are right twice a day.
Another said all government regulation was bad, mkay(and while I don't agree, I DO understand the ideal)--as if this means it's not regulated....it simply means it's regulated DIFFERENTLY...with a very different set of principles...but, they were swayed by "obama regulation"....had to be undone. I mean, obviously. The staunch centrist republican he was--gotta undo that.
I knew it would go through--they keep coming for it, and there was UUUgge misinformation campaign over the last couple weeks, obviously bent on simply making the understanding of the issues murky enough to get people to not bitch as loudly as they did last time it rolled up for a vote.

And still.... the most recent polling I saw was showing that approx. 80% of the general public oppose this rule change.

The interwebs were cranking along just fine for years.
So there's that.

I tried to understand this issue... Read up a bit. I never could wrap my brain around it. And consequently I'm happy that my default position has been achieved : less government regulations.

I just saw on NBC news that millions of names on petitions used as part of the basis to do away with net-neutrality are STOLEN identities. ‘Next stop...court!

Government runs too much shit and is larger than any corporation. So there's that.

less government regulations. so corporations decide how they want to provide the service... Government runs too much shit and is larger than any corporation. So there's that. except that our government has been run by corporations for the past 30 years or so. Especially given how the wheels came off the wagon in 2000 and thereafter I'm not sure as to what the hell you're talking about. I can't think of one thing the government does that isn't actually lobbied for or legislated via corporations. Literally every single thing our government does today is backed by corporations.

As I see it, the purpose of a government is to support the interests of the citizens whereas the purpose of a corporation is to support the interests of its shareholders.

Exactly, and in this circumstance those two positions should be at odds with each other. Unfortunately, that's not the case this time. When you suddenly are unable to access internet content or are charged a higher fee for access you will understand what it is that you lost by this decision. Hmmm...I wonder if this site will even survive the changes.

if you trust that your interests are better served by corporations than government then net neutrality should be abolished.
