DVD problems

I've searched this forum for an answer to my problem, with no luck, so here it goes. I can't seem to get my VS 2480 DVD/CD to do the TRACK EXPORT to a DVD disc. I go into TRACK EXPORT under the CD-RW MASTERING menu tab, and click on TRACK EXPORT, because I want the project to burn as WAV format/files. I notice that as its scanning the drive, that it lists my MATSHITA drive as: MATSHITA CD-R DVD-RAM UJ-811 H 100
It then asks me to insert a CD-R Disc! and below that says SS10 CD-R YES NO
even though the project I want EXPORTED to WAV format burned on DVD disc is listed in size as 1.3GB, it's asking me for a CD...not DVD. So, after a bit of humming it'll say "OPERATION FAILED".
Now oddly enough, it seems to read my DVD backup disc, which was 31 projects listed as 3.32GB, and listed as 500 and some odd number in RDAC format: under CD size. SO I start thinking, well perhaps my writers gone? I then go to service mode (PAGE, F1 key held down on startup). I see all the tests. I use the thumb wheel to try run a test on the MATSHITA drive. I press START...it says it's "WRITING DISC" , but I've no disc inserted...DVD or CD, and so I leave it...nothing happens for 10 min..no noise..nothing.
I decide to try eject tray and insert a DVD. It goes back to WRITING DISC, but again no noise, nothing happens, after 10 more min, I try to get out. Nothing happens with eject button, or exit button, or tray eject button on tray. The VS 2480 is locked up. I leave it for another 10 min, and turn it off via power switch. 2 min later, I try a regular start. The unit says it can't find my "IDE Drive" uh oh. SO...I can't make a nice power exit, so its another power off via switch. Next time, on power up, I again go to the service mode. This time, I just let it run through all the tests: lights, faders, everything I can. I see that the MATSHITA drive as a write is coming back "NG".
Now, somehow, in my silliness poking around places I really shouldn't be, I wound up reformatting the whole drive. Ok, stupid I know, but I did do a full surface scan and test. So although I clobbered my Vs8F-3 discs and my projects...I had them all on current backup, so I reinstalled everything.
Now, I find it odd I can reinstall from a DVD, even if the RDAC size was below 600Mb..it still read from a DVD. I DID go back once more to service to check my firmware, which was listed as 2.50...yet I seem to have listed an earlier firmware value when I checked the machine when I got it of 2.504. Ok..all seemed fine...and I thought I had it all sorted, until, I realized that the machine was not going to burn to either brand of DVD that I used before with it, and in fact stored two separate backups on.
Anyone have any ideas? Is my DVD CD-R drive hooped? I'm not really comfortable with Service Mode, but I got an idea that I might have to head back there to find out more... I considered just buying another DVD CD-R...they don't seem to be too much, and install looks fairly straight forward (lol I say that now!!). I sure appreciate any help or insights with this. cheers, ricco

It's the OS, they forgot to upgrade the wav export to dvd, so although you you have a 2480DVD unit, it still will only export to cd or cd-rw.
I've read that it will export to dvd-rs on an external dvd burner, but (even though I have one) I haven't tested it.
So... all depends how big your project is. Is it quicker to export just a few tracks to a cd-rw/cdr or better to make a backup data dvd of the project and bring that into your pc to run the VSWE on it (VS Wav Export program)?
Unless it's only a few tracks or I'm in a big hurry, I usually backup the whole project and export with VSWE.

Keep is right-- Track Export writes only to CD-R, not DVD.

A Brett LaCroix upgraded Roland CD Rack with a DVD burner on the left side and a hard drive (hot-swappable caddy) on the right.
I've been thinking about selling it lately, they're very hard to find.

Roland manufactured what was known as the "Roland CD Rack", an external SCSI CD drive. (Similar to the QPS CDR-II external SCSI drives, but the CD rack was in a rack.)
You can see one here:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/ROLAND-CD-Rack-...nAAAOSwdjdaHcB3
Anyway, Brett would buy these, remove the CD burner, mod the unit to take a DVD burner and he added the hot swappable HD caddy on the right side, too. They are sweet units man!

Ha, I'm not sure. The latest model I know of is the Panasonic UJ-870. (A UJ-850 will work, but the read/write times are slower.)

There are plenty of the Panasonic UJ's available and I'm certain that's what Brett used.
I don't have time to check, have over 50 students a week, gig, travel a lot (work), and have a 2 1/2 yr old.
I'll look as soon as I get the time, but with plenty of Panasonic UJ-850 & 870 out there for replacement, it's just not a priority.
