SO ::: Can one take 24 channels of WAVS from the VS --- save them to a DVD ( as long as the total files will fit ) and then hand them over to anyone to insert into to their favorite DAW ???

Or do we have to use the WAVE EXPORT APP --- ??

UPTIL ---- Just doing some live recording with the 2480 -- and the client wants to take the WAVs to LOGIC or PT --- ..

.... So no program in the VS -- that lets me take all 24 tracks of WAVs ==burn to DVD and pass that on to a client ---- VirDis never did perfect the app --- Bummer > always stuck in neutral or in 1990's

that's about the size of it.
client is going to have to wait for you to export them one way or another - VirDis in combination with VSWE, or with Roland to CD..... could be the end of winter before you're done with transfer to CD.... \:\)

Never tried VSWE -maybe I will watch a u Tube -- see how to run that app ---- OR I believe there is some magic with my REAPER -- that will drop some backup WAVs directly in ///???

that's right - I think you've used reaper for that - open the project in reaper and then render each track individually - as stems, I think I recall.

VSWE is one of the tools Bill nicely added to VirDis, so that may be an easy way. I don't remember exactly how to do it from VirDis anymore.

I think Bill did add that app BUT not for DVD --- SO does the VS files have to go through the VSWE prior ??

Prior to what?...
You open the VSWE tool and drag a VirDis bin/hdd, or whatever Bill is currently calling his file format that holds your VS projects, into VSWE's main window - IIRC - VSWE shows the partitions, if any with a little + sign to the left - IIRC - and opening that partition shows the projects in a list by name. You highlight one of the projects and it shows where the tracks are in the grid on the right of the main window. You select the tracks you want (usually using the ALL option), then have VSWE extract the wav files from the tracks.

Take a look at these pics that I made to show the basic VSWE steps. The example I use was from an SD card, but the process is the same for an hd, or a VirDis container/folder/project thing.
https://1drv.ms/f/s!ApQxVDASwyuYgUW_PFsRoQ62b1Ci

Maybe that will give you something to play with.
I like it because I don't have to fiddle with Reaper to set up and render the individual tracks.... it seems more simple in VSWE - maybe that's just me.

Maybe VSWE can take stuff off of DVD, I don't remember if Bear ever said that was possible..... There's a "rip" function in the "Extras" dropdown menu in the upper left corner of VSWE.
You specify the path to your dvd/cd drive on the computer in the Commandline prompt you get when you click on the Rip choice. I've included one pic of that little entry box. There's a good example of a drive path there for you - If you can figure out what drive letters you use for your dvd/cd drive and where you want your rip folder on your pc, then all you'd need to do is substitute those letters in place of what I used and type everything else exactly as I did..... it has to be exact, down to the space, or no space, the correct slash.... but it's totally doable for a numbster like I was back when I first set this up...... so if I can do it........ \:\)

Doesn't the 2480 have a wave export? I thought it was there but slow like a turtle.

It does --I have used it >> maybe about 10 years ago .... just not sure how many tracks at time can be transported ..

I thought we covered that in the first two posts in this thread....

yes, there's wav export, but it's slow as molasses, or a turtle, whichever fits your imagination best.

also, I believe it only works with CDs, not DVDs.

While it may be slow, I'm pretty sure wav export is the easiest most basic way to accomplish what you're trying to do.

The only challenge after that comes to aligning the tracks.

Pretty sure there needs to be count in, or some constant indicator on each track that can be aligned.

Otherwise, I'm not sure what the issue is?

I do plenty of stuff on the VS that entails starting the process, walking away to go do something else, and then come back once it's finished.

No skin off my back...I got plenty of other stuff I can do while the VS is slogging along.

But at least you have them with the first project...proprietary files If they wish to take the songs elsewhere --- stuck the first productions \:p

Actually, in that sense, both Reaper and VSWE would be both easier and faster. Reaper opens the project files already oriented to the timeline as they were in the 2480 and rendering is just a matter of starting from zero for all tracks rendered. VSWE automatically aligns every extracted track to zero, padding where necessary to keep things in time-alignment when imported to a daw.

And both of those programs process way faster than the 2480 exports.

But the 2480 is the simplest to execute... no doubt.

Two choices to export wav files:

CD-RW Mastering> WAV Export to CD only!> Map> select your tracks> follow the prompts

or

Backup the project to DVD> put DVD into PC> extract the wav files with VSWE

Personally, I would do the 2nd. You'll have a backup of the entire session and burning to dvd is faster than cd, and, you'll have all the wav files, too.

VSWE is a complete God send!!!!!

I do this all the time, works fantastically for folks that want to mix themselves / at other studios. No complaints yet.

Will look at the VSWE screen again -- have not seen it for many years -- it looked so foreign .. with little squares / etc.

Maybe VSWE doesn't work with M16 recording format...
Try one of the MT formats and see if that works.
At least then you can start to reacquaint yourself with it for starters.

Might need to get VirDis back up and running... if you don't already.

Those recording modes that VSWE can't read are trouble, for sure....... just so you know.
I've got LIV mode stuff that needs to be transferred from the 1680 and the only way I can do it is to re-record all the tracks through the direct outs of the VS into a PC now, 'cause VSWE won't work with LIV mode.

At least that's how I remember it at the moment. I will refresh my memory tomorrow, I think, and confirm that.

Oh yeah - by the way......
not a good idea to write files directly to the desktop...... better to create a folder somewhere other than the desktop, or just dumping them all there too.

OOPPs sorry to be so misleading >> that was just a random photo of VSWE on the NET to show the unusual screen ( to me )

-- Yes, I have VIRDIS running daily ( although I still have to enable/disable in DEVICE MANAGER == every morn ) ANd a separate external HD >> for all the VS files.
