I haven't posted to this forum in over 10 years as my trusty 2480 has been solid - until recently. So here are the symptoms:
No audio output from any recorded track to any output. Nothing in the headphones, nothing in the speakers, no meters showing any signal.
This is across multiple projects at different sample rates. Master fader is up, nothing solo'd, nothing muted, all tracks playback active, routing is normal and going to master and monitor outputs correctly. Unit is not in CD Master mode. I have tried internal and external clocking and I DO get a pop in the speakers when that change is made. I have tried playing projects both from the internal IDE and an external SCSI drive. I have tried disconnecting all SCSI devices and external digital I/O. The disk activity light blinks as usual. The waveview on the tracks show recorded waveforms.
The oddest and most frustrating part is that the problem is intermittent. One day it's symptomatic, the next day it's not. I have had it start playing a project and then suddenly the output disappears without anything being touched. I have taken it to an authorized Roland repair shop once, and of course it wasn't symptomatic then so hours of time and $50 wasted.
My next step is to see if I can start disassembling and re-seat any cards or ribbon cables unless someone has another suggestion.
I'd appreciate any help to keep the old workhorse humming.
