Hi you guys,

My CDRW drive fails to Burn Audio or Track export.
Also data export and data backup fails.
I've tried to playback a regular audio cd which is no problem at all and works just fine.

I'm using blanco CDR discs that never let me down before.
I defragmentated all four disc drives (IDE:0/1/2/3) but the CDRW drive keeps spitting out CD's and "Operation Failure' keeps popping up, with several brands of CDR's.

What do you suggest that i can do to solve this problem.

Thanks so much,

Ro

I've never heard/seen an explanation for why the VS recorders have troubles like this with the CD burns, but they have a long history of failed burns and recovers.

Sometimes the problem is fixed with a few passes of a cleaning disc - you might try that. But more often, the problem is never fully solved without replacing the burner. The problem for me is that I suspect the burners are not necessarily the issue, but something to do with the software design - I could be completely wrong though, but I probably will never know for sure.

Sometimes a brand of discs can appear to be to blame, even after years of success. Yet other times, trying different brands and differing price ranges doesn't bring a solution either.

You might try Verbatim or HP CD-R discs - lightscribe version, if you can find them. I only make the suggestion because they have and are working for me and have for many years now - although I also don't burn discs very often anymore either.

If cleaning the burner with a proper cleaning disc and trying some recommended disc you haven't used before doesn't solve the problem, then you're bound to need to search for another burner possibly, if you can find an appropriate replacement that is.

Unfortunately, also, is that the 2400 doesn't have a SCSI output for an external burner, otherwise that might be another alternative for you.

Replacing the burners is also a tricky bit of a challenge, since the VS recorders will only do backups and recoveries to very specific brands/models. Your best bet there might be to see if the 2400 is in the compatibility list found around the planet's VS forums here and find out what burners might be listed there.

you can install an external hard drive dock, by using an ide to sata converter and then using an sata to e-sata cable. I did it on my unit after reading up on it. Its a good way to get to the data without using a cd-rom.

how to at:
how to add esata external drive to vs2400cd

won't cure your cd burner problem, but once you have your data
on the drive you can import it onto any other computer and mangle and copy it to your hearts content. (you must power down the vst, before you plug the external drive into your usb/or esata port)

I did the mod to my machine and can verify it works, probably ran me about 45$ not counting hard drive, which I had lying around.

Sometimes media companies get bought out and the new company will change how the cds are made, but most likely your burner got old and took a dump. They're easy to replace. Remove the burner, order a used one off of ebay. Should cost around $10-15.
They come out of used laptops, sometimes the firmware that's set on them won't work on the Roland, so I highly suggest buying 2 used cd burners off of ebay for around $30. This way if the first one doesn't work, just put the second one in. If the first one works, you'll have a backup on standby in the closet.

Uptildawn> I used a cleaning CD but it did not solve the issue.
No problem playing back audio but it won't burn anymore.

DapperDan99> Thanks but i'm not sure if i'll going into the sata thingy.

Keeppracticing> You mean standard labtop burners? Maybe you can send me a link? How do i make sure the firmware works on the Roland and will this fit? I'm not that technical, gonna need some help with this.

Thanks you guys.

See Frank's 2480 Guide for a list of compatible drives.

Any drive you install MUST have the firmware set to MASTER. AFAIK, this is not something whch can be set by the user, so query the seller to ensure proper firmware setting and/or returnability.

The 2400 can use a DVD drive, but be aware that due to software limitations, it will burn only CDs and CDRWs-- not DVDs.
