Whilst tracking the other day I was flitting about between record and play back using the jog wheel to wind back a few bars then pressing play winding back again then recording etc. Occasionally one of my tracks played back completely out of sync. I pressed stop rewound a bit then it was all in sync.

This is the first time anything and I mean anything has gone wrong on my VS2480!

Iím wondering has anybody else had this?

My VS Has a SSD installed

Regards Frank

Do you have anything external connected to the 2480 - say something connected via midi? MIDI devices and the recorder always need a moment or two to sync.

Is it possible that the 2480 has a bit of difficulty dealing with the SSD? The 2480 was certainly designed long before SSD technology and maybe it takes a moment or two for it to sync multiple tracks as a result.

Try tapping bookmarks and using those to start from. It's nice to have a consistent start. A lot of people use the jogwheel and hit record/play to fast - give the machine a moment to finish its first function. I'd recommend slowing down just a little bit. Also, keep everything backed up to disc and remember you can always undo to a level where everything was in sync if need be.

This happened to me one time. When I rewound a bit, it played in sync. The problem never repeated itself though.

Agreed...I always try to give the unit some time between functions...not methodically slow, just avoid clicking too much stuff too rapidly.

I don't commonly use the jog wheel - definitely not when toggling between recording and playing back. It's always felt a little too...unstable...to me. I'll sometimes use it for rolling back bigger chunks upon playback/listening, but the vast majority of time, I use the locaters.

Always have a ton of locaters on my projects, many of them just temporary so I can jump back to a specific spot and then I'll delete them. Seems to work much better than the jog wheel.

Indeed - I think this was probably just a hiccup from it trying to do too much to fast.

Locaters are your friend. \:\)

Thanks for the advice, Iím going to treat my 2480 with a little bit more respect.

I too am starting to use the locaters to jump about.

Also the scene locaters for rough mixes.

What a great machine this is!

Happened maybe twice --in 15 years.. Usually "resets" itself in a few minutes.

when the out of sync happens, press stop and return to beginning of song. tracks will realign themselves.

Thanks everyone, it hasnít happened since Iíve slowed down a bit. Unlike a DAW the VS responds to being treated with respect!

Itís almost like the VS is reminding me to slow down in this super fast modern world.

What a great multitrack recorder this is.
