To check System version number:

Start 2480 while holding CHEDIT and STATUS buttons for Channel 1.

This will display the entire version number. IIRC, the final version is 2.505. I think this enabled DVD capability

To exit this screen, shut machine off

Yeah, but huvospeterīs problem was "Channel Edit" button #1 did not work .......

And to exit that "info page" you just press "ENTER" and the VS machine starts.
OR shut it off with power switch.

I have OS 2.504 in all of my 5 VS-2480īs and they all work great with
DVD burner , external or internal ......

Cheers !

Thank you Catweazle, I succeeded! 2.500 is the version on my machine and 1.000 is the sub sys software version. I read it may be important to be 2.504 or 2.505 because the condition for a successful hdd-ssd switch is this! Unfortunately the conversion failed - JP 103-5. + Kingston 120GB SSD as advised here on the board. It recognized, quickly formatted, did the 11 partitions, but can't work reliably on Kingston ssd. The backup is constantly stuck! I see a problem with me and many people converting the 2480HD, despite the excellent IanCarefine videos. Do you know that you can upgrade from an external CD-RW writer?I don't have a midi sequence...

You can use a pc (or mac with the correct version) to perform the update, using the SMF tool provided by Roland - https://www.roland.com/us/support/by_pro...7-d082f0d11af8/

The links to it all appear to be broken in their support pages, but you can get directly to it via a google search, as I have provided above - in case you need mac and this one is not mac.

You will also need a midi cable out from your pc to go IN to the VS. As many don't have midi connectors on their computers anymore, most will use a midi/usb adapter cable. Inexpensive cables should work just fine (expense is not the end-all in this case), but some people have success with one cable, but not another, so you might have to try more than one "brand". In my case, first time was a charm - but I couldn't tell you which to buy now. That was such a long time ago for me.

I bought a second hand VS-2480 HD some 12 - 14 years ago and with it came
a SCSI DVD burner marked "VS Mega Storage"
( looks lika an old Apple CD ROM drive from the 90īs )
And there was a upgrade CD with OS 2.504 in the package, so I guess the
minimum OS for running DVD backups is 2.504 .......

Instruction paper says they have a ebay store, but that is probably
more than 14 years ago .......... Long gone now .....

So, might be a really rare item i guess ....

Cheers !

Hello all ! Happy New 2021 Year !!! I have two Roland VS2480 devices. One of them immediately recognized the Samsung EVO type SSD, the other VS , did not recognize, whatever I wanted to do. And then such a thing happened, that my friend bring me his Roland VS2480 , who was stopped starting, or starts only after 3 to 5 times of try ... there were static problems and a lot of all kinds of disturbances. SSD also did not recognized .... But ... I replaced all the capacitors on the motherboard og VS with a new one, and everything started to work perfectly, the appliance did not break down immediately. http://www.vsplanet.com/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=1441648&fpart=2 Then I had the thought of trying to put the SSD Samsung Evo in the repaired VS2480 again, and what do you think ... it have a great start with the SSD !!! \:\) \:\) \:\) The Samsung Evo is the most acceptable variant for Roland VS2480, but ... there is one "but", everything works great, only until the moment you decide to Normalize WAV on the tracks in the VS2480, it just hangs and that's it. Everything else works without admiration. I haven't checked these issues in the newly repaired VS, but in my Roland, it hangs after using this function and nothing can be done.

But keep in mind that I can't yet guarantee that it will work 100% on all versions of the VS2480 devices. Needs many times to check. Maybe it just happened with my Roland VS2480 only.
