Hi,

I am a long time VS-2480 owner (previously VS-880EX followed by VS-1680). I also currently have a VSR-880 I use with my 2480.

Yesterday I acquired a 2400. The only problem I encountered so far is that the time/value dial was badly non-functional. I tried pulling the knob off and spraying some DeoxIT around the shaft hoping it would make it's way down inside.

I also updated the OS to the latest version.

I don't know what exactly did it but the time/value dial is working perfectly now.

Overall this unit seems to be functioning correctly.

I was hoping to use it as a control surface for Reaper but I haven't been able to get that working yet. I'm not sure if the 2400 will work for that but I will continue to investigate.

Steve

Yes it will work as a control surface. If I'm not wrong, you will need to go to Roland website to download the templet for SI-24.

Some 2480 users use V-fire to hook up their 2480 or 2400 through the R-BUS. but midi will work as well.

That time/value dial is easily replaceable. The part description, from the 2400 Service Notes:

01231367 ROTARY ENCODER EC16B24204 (L=15) (W/N&W)

The same unit is used in the VS2000. Roland sold me the part directly, and it is a pretty simple job to replace it. IIRC, it was about an hour start-to-finish. There are only three or four solder points.

Funny to me!

My handyman skills rate at about a 2. ;>)

Think I'd blow the unit up if I tried this.

Amazed at what some Planeteers tackle on their machines.

I've never been afraid to take ANYthing apart-- ask my mother about her two-year old son and an alarm clock…

Haha-- nice catch, Up.

I was the two-year-old 'ministering' to the alarm clock. Let's just say it was right twice in 24 hr after that.

Fortunately, my fixing chops have improved a bit over the intervening decades.

I inherited two of my grandpa and pa's pocket watches.... in the current state of disrepair they were left in after I set out to fix them decades ago. \:\)

Thanks guys. I will contact Roland and see if I can get one.

I'm not afraid to get into the unit. I have an electronics diploma but I have worked in software for quite a few years.

One thing I was surprised about versus the 2480 is that the EQ and dynamics are only on the first 8 inputs. One could argue that is because of the 8 physical inputs.

On the 2480 there are 16 physical inputs but the EQ and dynamics are on all 24 inputs.

I have a VSR-880 that I use to expand inputs. So when I connect it to the 2480 I still have eq and dynamics on the inputs but on the 2400 I don't.

The other small thing I noticed is that there is no filter on the eq. I often use the high pass filter on the 2480 inputs to get rid of any low end noise when micing guitars or vocals.

Not complaining. I traded a Boss DS-330 for it so I got it cheap.
